Based in Tokyo, you will shape the function, hire and develop exceptional people, and personally lead strategic customer engagements. You will help legal teams identify where AI can make a meaningful difference, translate complex legal work into practical workflows, and turn initial adoption into lasting changes in how they work.
This role combines team leadership, legal domain expertise, and hands-on delivery. You will set the direction for Legal Engineering in Japan and establish the standards that enable the team to grow. You will also work directly with senior lawyers and legal leaders, bringing the credibility and practical judgement needed to guide AI adoption.
Define priorities, ways of working, and standards for customer delivery.
Recruit, coach, and develop Legal Engineers with strong legal expertise, product fluency, and customer judgement.
Create repeatable approaches to discovery, pilots, workflow design, training, and adoption that reflect customer needs.
Work with global Legal Engineering leadership to exchange best practices and strengthen how we serve customers.
Build trusted relationships with partners, general counsel, innovation leaders, and other senior stakeholders at law firms and corporate legal departments.
Personally lead key engagements, from understanding a customer’s legal work and demonstrating relevant use cases through to implementation and broader adoption.
Help customers redesign legal workflows, assess the quality of AI outputs, and establish appropriate human review.
Define success with customers and demonstrate measurable improvements in the quality, speed, and efficiency of their work.
Partner with Sales and customer engagement teams to design credible pilots, support complex opportunities, and help customers expand their use of Legora.
Ensure customer insights inform product development through close collaboration with Product and Engineering.
Represent Legora in customer workshops and industry discussions, explaining the practical opportunities and limitations of AI with clarity.
Balance immediate customer needs with developing the people and capabilities required for long-term growth.
Substantial experience in the legal sector, including law firm experience and strong knowledge of legal practice, workflows, and client expectations.
Experience delivering legal technology or AI transformation initiatives, with evidence of moving from experimentation to sustained adoption.
A track record of leading people and complex initiatives, with the ability to recruit, coach, and develop a high-performing team.
The credibility to advise senior legal professionals and the practical skills to lead workshops, demonstrate a product, and work through detailed use cases.
Strong commercial judgement and an understanding of how customer outcomes support business growth.
The ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear priorities and executable plans.
Business-level English proficiency, enabling effective collaboration with global colleagues and stakeholders.
A commitment to being based in Tokyo.
A legal qualification is valued but is not essential. We are particularly interested in the depth of your legal domain knowledge and your ability to use technology to improve how legal work gets done.
