Why this role is on the menu

Instacart's Strategic Finance team partners across the business to drive disciplined growth and long-term value creation. Within this group, Consolidation is responsible for being the aggregated source of truth for how Instacart performs and where it's headed. As Director, Strategic Finance – Consolidation, you will own this responsibility and sit at the center of our financial ecosystem — integrating inputs from Accounting, other parts of StratFin, Business Operations teams, Investor Relations, and more — into one coherent, reconciled, and forward-looking view of the company.

This is a high-visibility role at the heart of Instacart's financial governance. Reporting to the Vice President of Investor Relations and Strategic Finance, you will be the architect of our consolidated P&L forecast, our long-range financial model, and the financial narratives that inform our Board, investors, and executive team. As Instacart continues to mature as a public company, this function is foundational to how we govern the business and tell our financial story.

The ideal candidate is a rigorous financial operator and natural integrator — someone who sees the forest, not just the trees. You know how to land the quarter while simultaneously anticipating what's around short-, medium-, and long-term corners. You consolidate narratives and key business insights across teams into a single, coherent point of view. You earn the trust of senior stakeholders through consistently high-quality work, lead a high-performing team, and set the bar for what great looks like.

What you'll cook up in your first year

Own the consolidated financial view

  • A single, reconciled consolidated P&L forecast is in place and trusted — integrating inputs from the broader StratFin team, Accounting, Business Operations, Investor Relations and more.
  • The monthly and quarterly close cycle runs on time and at executive-quality standards, with variance analysis and management reporting packages that connect results to business drivers — not just numbers on a page.
  • A GAAP and non-GAAP long-range financial model (5-year) reflects current strategy and updated assumptions, with scenario analysis that helps leadership anticipate what's around the corner.
  • The annual budgeting process is orchestrated end-to-end, with company-level targets set clearly and cross-functional alignment secured.

Be the financial narrator for Instacart's story

  • Board decks, investor materials, and quarterly business review packages are delivered consistently — accurate, insightful, and requiring minimal revision from senior leadership.
  • Our weekly consolidated P&L outlook is a trusted executive staple, surfacing not just what happened, but what it means and what's coming.
  • Cross-team narratives and business insights are synthesized into a single, coherent point of view — so leadership always knows where the business stands and what decisions need to be made.

Build the infrastructure that makes it all scalable

  • Forecasting processes that are repeatable, auditable, and aligned with Accounting's close process.
  • Business Unit P&Ls are designed and live, enabling clearer accountability and more rigorous investment decisions.
  • Internal capital allocation decisions are timely, organized and effective — providing financial frameworks to seamlessly align and execute key business decisions.

Grow the team and raise the bar

  • A high-performing team is operating at a consistently elevated standard — stronger analytical rigor, sharper business judgment, and clear ownership across the function.
  • Cross-functional partners — including the CFO, Strategic Finance, Accounting, Investor Relations, Legal, and other Business partners — rely on this function as a proactive, trusted advisor, not just a reporting engine.

The secret ingredients we're looking for

Must-have pantry staples (Minimum Qualifications)

  • 12+ years of experience in a relevant field with demonstrated financial acumen and a track record of leveraging data to drive business impact
  • Proven experience in FP&A, Corporate Finance, or Strategic Finance at a high-growth or public technology company, with direct ownership of consolidated financial reporting and forecasting processes
  • Deep understanding of GAAP financial statements and comfort operating across both GAAP and non-GAAP financial frameworks
  • High proficiency in advanced Excel/Sheets with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain complex, enterprise-grade financial models
  • Trusted partner to cross-functional leadership, including Accounting, IR, and Business Ops; effectively influences stakeholders to secure alignment on complex strategic recommendations
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills—able to distill complex financial data into crisp, actionable narratives for the Board, C-suite, and business partners
  • Strong people management experience with a track record of developing high-performing Finance teams and raising the bar on analytical quality and process discipline
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities, and deliver in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment

Optional garnishes (Preferred Qualifications)

  • MBA preferred
  • Experience building or significantly transforming a consolidation or Corporate/Strategic Finance function, particularly in the context of a high-paced, newly public company.
  • Familiarity with financial planning systems such as Adaptive, Oracle, Workiva, Pigment, Anaplan, or similar enterprise FP&A tools
  • Intermediate to advanced SQL proficiency—comfortable leveraging datasets to pressure-test assumptions, improve reporting, and uncover actionable insights
  • Experience with consumer marketplace businesses or on-demand commerce
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for applying AI and automation tools to financial forecasting, reporting, and analytical workflows
  • Ability to work from our San Francisco or New York City office on occasion
