From the original posting

As Engineering Manager for the Vanta for Government team, you'll lead a team on one of Vanta's most strategically significant expansion bets: building the compliance platform that will serve government vendors, federal agencies, and SLED organizations at scale.

The Vanta for Government team is building and evolving Vanta's AI-powered platform for government vendors, federal agencies, and State, Local, and Education (SLED) organizations. Our mission is to make government compliance not easy, but easier: helping organizations automate the heavy lifting across complex frameworks like FedRAMP, CMMC, and NIST, strengthen their security posture, and support mission-critical work with greater confidence.

You'll join at a critical juncture in the product's development, working directly alongside early design partners, translating evolving requirements into real product, and establishing the engineering practices and team culture that will define how this team operates as it grows.

What you’ll do as a Engineering Manager at Vanta:

  • Build and grow a high-performing team: lead, coach, and develop engineers while hiring strategically, closing gaps in team composition, and raising the bar on quality and delivery

  • Drive execution across the government product roadmap: deliver against multi-quarter initiatives spanning core compliance workflow features, FedRAMP/CMMC/NIST-specific capabilities, and integrations designed for government vendors and customers

  • Partner closely with Product and Design to define what gets built and in what order — translating ambiguous, early-stage requirements from design partners into focused engineering plans

  • Navigate the realities of a 0→1 build environment: manage scope, sequencing, and cross-functional dependencies while maintaining team momentum and delivery velocity

  • Establish the engineering operating rhythms, standards, and practices that will scale with the product as the team and customer base grow

How to be successful in this role:

  • Have 3+ years of professional experience in a full-time engineering management role, with a demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop engineers of varying seniority levels

  • Have a strong technical foundation - ideally as a former senior engineer - with the ability to engage meaningfully on architecture, system design, and technical tradeoffs

  • Have experience in early-stage or 0→1 product environments where requirements evolve quickly and judgment about what to build carries real consequences

  • Have experience in a regulated industry such as fintech or healthcare; FedRAMP, CMMC, or government domain experience is a plus, but not required

  • Have a track record of hiring, onboarding, and ramping engineers effectively, with demonstrated success building team cohesion and a strong engineering culture

  • Have delivered complex, multi-quarter initiatives with cross-functional dependencies, balancing near-term customer impact with long-term platform investments

  • Are a clear communicator who can align engineers, product managers, and design partners around a shared technical direction

  • Are a strong decision-maker who effectively balances ambiguity, available data, speed, and quality

  • Open to using AI to amplify their skills and strengthen their work — demonstrating curiosity, a willingness to learn, and sound judgment in applying AI responsibly to improve efficiency and impact

Work Authorization Requirements:

  • You must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship.

What you can expect as a Vanta’n:

  • Industry-competitive salary and equity

  • Health & wellness stipend

  • Remote workspace, internet, and cellphone stipend

  • Family planning benefits

  • Matching 401(k) contribution with immediate vesting

  • 11 company-paid holidays
