About Bolter
Bolter is an AI agent platform built to help people get real work done, without needing to stitch together multiple tools or spend weeks setting things up.
You describe what you need in plain language and Bolter creates and runs agents that can carry out the work end to end. They retain context, remember how you work and can also create real, shareable apps such as trackers and dashboards.
Bolter is funded and currently at the validation-sprint stage, working with a small group of high-impact operators. The product already exists. We are now looking for a founding designer to lead a significant redesign and establish the design foundations for what comes next.
About the role
As Bolter’s founding designer, you will rethink how people create, understand and work with AI agents across the product.
That includes the agent-building experience, the workspace where people can steer their agents, and the applications those agents generate.
You will be working with an existing product, but there is no established design system you need to preserve. You will build that system from the ground up while deciding which parts of the current experience should evolve, which should be reworked and what new interaction patterns Bolter needs.
The design problem goes beyond improving the interface. It is working out what it should feel like to collaborate with agents that retain context, carry out work and create software themselves.
You will work directly with the GM in a lean team, with specialised AI agents supporting implementation. The product is still early enough that the core design decisions are open, and your work will shape how Bolter develops from here.
What you’ll do
Lead a significant redesign of the existing Bolter product
Build and own Bolter’s design system from the ground up
Define the interaction patterns for creating, understanding and steering AI agents
Shape the experience across the workspace and agent-generated applications
Make pragmatic trade-offs between speed, clarity and craft
Move quickly from ideas to working designs and strengthen what proves useful
Help shape the early design and product team as Bolter grows
What we’re looking for
Experience designing and shipping consumer-facing digital products, ideally AI products, productivity tools or chat applications
Experience significantly improving or rethinking an existing product experience
You think in systems and interaction patterns, not individual screens
You have strong product and design judgement
You care about craft, but know when speed and pragmatism matter more than polish
You’re comfortable designing while the product itself is still being defined, rather than working from a settled brief
You can form clear opinions and adapt them when the evidence changes
Experience with AI products is particularly relevant, but we are also interested in designers who have worked on strong B2C or D2C productivity and chat experiences.
Bolter already has a working product, but the design foundations are still being set. You will have meaningful ownership over how that experience evolves and the opportunity to help define what working with AI agents should actually feel like.
If you want to transform an early AI product, we’d love to hear from you.
