What is Fizz

Fizz is the hottest Gen Z social platform in the world. Having started as America’s biggest college social app, Fizz is now allowing Gen Z globally to connect around their shared experiences and identities. College Fizz communities feature a private, moderated feed of posts from verified students, making it the most entertaining and authentic way to experience student life. Our newest product, Global Fizz, brings together all of Gen Z both domestically and abroad, providing a space to satisfy the 99% of life not on entertainment platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Fizz is on a mission to bring social back to social media.

What We've Done

We first launched Fizz at Stanford in July 2021 and have since seen >95% of undergraduates join the app, half of which use Fizz every day. Since raising a $25M Series B in July 2023, we have established ourselves as the dominant social app at 700+ colleges, have begun to generate revenue through advertising, and are actively expanding to communities beyond college. Most recently, Fizz hit #1 overall on the App Store charts in Saudi Arabia.

Where We're Going

We have three primary goals for 2026: continue our expansion to the entire US college market, drive revenue growth through our revolutionary ads business, and rapidly expand to non-college students — both domestically and abroad.

What you’ll be doing

We’re seeking a Growth Engineer to build the systems and automations that power Fizz’s expansion, monetization, and operational efficiency. In this role, you’ll sit at the intersection of product, engineering, and go-to-market — working directly with our Head of Product, CTO, growth, and monetization teams.

You’ll own high-leverage projects across GTM, content management, trust & safety, and monetization, designing systems that eliminate manual work and accelerate our growth.

Specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Build systems that drive growth: Design and maintain the internal tools, workflows, and automations that power Fizz's GTM engine, from onboarding flows to campus launch execution — built as real services with clear data models, APIs, and job pipelines, not one-off scripts.

  • Enable operational excellence: Collaborate with ops and trust & safety teams to identify recurring issues, ship quick fixes, and deliver scalable solutions that improve efficiency and reduce pain points.

  • Turn data into leverage: Own analytics pipelines, dashboards, and reporting. Write SQL queries, track performance metrics, and ensure teams have accurate and actionable insights.

  • Automate the unglamorous stuff: From internal content workflows to systems that manage performance of 500+ Instagram page managers on campus, take on critical but messy challenges that unlock scalability.

  • Requirements shaping: You don’t just wait for specs — you proactively talk to ops, growth, and product teams to uncover problems, scope opportunities, and define what should be built.

  • Experiment and ship quickly, then make it last: Prototype fast with LLM-driven workflows, then own the path from prototype to production yourself. You should have the judgment to know when a scrappy tool is good enough and when you should rebuilt it as a durable backend system — with real data models, idempotency, monitoring, and error handling.

  • Be accountable for outcomes: Your work directly impacts Fizz’s ability to expand faster, monetize smarter, and operate more efficiently.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in backend-heavy software engineering (growth, infra, or product-engineering)

  • Proven track record of building technical systems or products from 0→1 in fast-paced environments

  • Strong backend fundamentals: data modeling, API design, queues, background jobs, caching — with hands-on experience architecting and operating services in a cloud environment (GCP, AWS, Azure)

  • Exceptional communication skills to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Highly data-driven, with the ability to dive deep into analytics while also shaping strategic outcomes

  • Fluent with AI coding tools, and able to read, review, and debug what they produce.

  • Strong grasp on the psychology of social products and a passion for building authentic experiences for Gen-Z

The primary technologies we work with are Swift/Kotlin, Node, Google Cloud, BigQuery, MongoDB, and Redis — but no prior experience with these specific technologies is required.

This is an onsite role based out of our New York, NY (Soho) office.

The targeted compensation range for this role is between $130,000 - $170,000 a year, based on job related skills and experience.

Fizz full-time employees are eligible for company sponsored benefits and equity.
