From the original posting

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

HARDWARE DEVELOPMENT ELECTRICAL ENGINEER (STARLINK AVIATION)

Starlink is SpaceX’s ambitious program to bring high quality internet to the globe by building a constellation of thousands of satellites in low earth orbit (LEO) which we launched on our Falcon 9 reusable rockets over the past years. The Starlink Aviation team is developing mobility solutions for aircraft that will connect to the Starlink constellation and provide an amazing customer experience in flight.

As an Electrical Design Engineer on Starlink Aviation, you’ll have ownership over the entire life-cycle of the hardware that enables this in-flight connectivity, and sit at the intersection of electrical, mechanical, thermal analysis, software, and antenna/RF engineering. Challenges range from digital communications, power electronics, avionics, failure analysis, in-flight reliability, test automation, and RF devices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Rapidly develop high-reliability electronics for commercial aviation applications.
  • Drive system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, hardware bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, test, and in-flight performance of complex electrical designs
  • Get hands-on and support hardware through production, aircraft integration and flight
  • Work closely with engineers from adjacent disciplines (mechanical, thermal, software, test engineering, supply chain, etc.) to deliver tightly integrated, high-performance hardware
  • Challenge assumptions, question requirements, learn from your mistakes, and approach problems with an open mind

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or another STEM discipline
  • 1+ years of experience with the design/analysis of circuits, electronic products, or electrical hardware (internships/co-ops can apply)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar engineering degree
  • 1+ years of electronic product experience designing hardware from concept through production; strong emphasis on full life-cycle development of new hardware products and not small incremental updates to legacy hardware
  • 1+ years of experience designing and implementing mixed-signal circuit boards from concept through production using processors, operational amplifiers, analog to digital and digital to analog converters, power supply components, Ethernet, I2C, SPI.
  • 1+ years of professional experience testing, troubleshooting, and debugging electronics
  • Strong understanding of computers and programming languages (Python, C/C++)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly cross-functional role
  • Experience working on aerospace grade hardware

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission critical deadlines
  • Some travel may occasionally be required

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Electrical Engineer/Level I: $105,000.00 - $122,500.00
Electrical Engineer/Level II: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00
