About Base

Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role

As the Facilities and Maintenance Leader, you will oversee the operations, maintenance, and safety of Base Factory 1. The key responsibilities will be the support of building infrastructure, coordination of full-time or contract support resources for facilities upkeep or upgrades, along with creating the equipment maintenance organization to support production operations. This individual will help build our preventative maintenance systems and develop strategies to ensure reliable operation of our manufacturing equipment.

What You’ll Do

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on mechanical, control, and infrastructure systems

  • Support general facility maintenance needs, prioritize service requests, and allocate resources to meet evolving operational requirements

  • Equipment Operation Availability / % OEE improvement: System development to track current shop conditions and identification of key areas of improvement

  • Develop and implement PM/TPM activities for production and facilities equipment

  • Manage the spares system and identify critical spares inventory

  • Establish and communicate direction and priorities for the maintenance team

  • Drive the maintenance and reliability initiative focused on preventive and predictive maintenance rather than reactive maintenance

  • Set and maintain departmental goals and KPI’s, monitor line efficiencies, labor cost, and other department expenses

  • Partner cross-functionally to manage, maintain and establish maintenance procedures for production lines to ensure production meets or exceeds the targets

  • Provide training and continuous development to both direct and indirect reports

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial or facility maintenance

  • Associate Degree, technical certification, or completion of a trade school program preferred

  • Strong technical expertise in HVAC systems, mechanical repairs, and infrastructure operations, with knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards

  • Strong preventive maintenance development experience and spare inventory management

  • Able to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities, establish and achieve goals

  • Able to work a night schedule, including weekday and weekend overtime

  • Familiarity with electrical and hydraulics/pneumatics troubleshooting using prints

  • PLC: troubleshooting with, or programming Allen Bradley or Siemens

  • Ability to work 1st shift: 7am-3:30pm or 2nd shift: 3:30pm-12am

About the Team

The Facilities and Maintenance team is responsible for keeping Base Factory 1 running safely, reliably, and efficiently every hour of every shift. As Base scales production of home battery systems, this team builds the maintenance programs, reliability systems, and facility infrastructure that prevent downtime before it happens and enable manufacturing to meet growing customer demand. You'll have the opportunity to establish the foundation for a world-class maintenance organization—from preventive maintenance and spare parts strategy to equipment reliability and facility operations—rather than inheriting legacy systems. If you're excited by the challenge of building systems from the ground up, solving complex operational problems, and seeing the direct impact of your work on production output, quality, and company growth, this is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a rapidly scaling factory.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

Our Values

  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

  • Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
