Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Technician to support advanced precision mechanical design, fabrication, and system integration efforts. This role requires a hands-on problem solver who can work independently, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and contribute to innovative technical solutions.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, variety, and solving problems without waiting for step-by-step instructions.

What You'll Get to Do

  • Design and build mechanical components and assemblies from concept to prototype.

  • Create, modify, and maintain mechanical drawings and documentation.

  • Fabricate parts using shop tools, machining, and rapid prototyping methods.

  • Work with and integrate basic electronics and electromechanical systems.

  • Troubleshoot and iterate on prototypes quickly.

  • Juggle multiple projects and shifting priorities in a startup setting.

  • Develop creative, practical solutions to open-ended technical problems.

  • Communicate clearly with engineers, founders, and teammates.

  • Document designs, changes, and build processes so others can follow.

What You Bring to Inertia

  • Experience as a mechanical technician or similar hands-on role.

  • Strong mechanical design and drawing skills.

  • Demonstrated hands-on fabrication and build experience, including minor machining, soldering, working with pressure systems, and performing equipment maintenance.

  • Working knowledge of electronics and system integration.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Comfortable wearing multiple hats and switching tasks as needed.

  • Strong problem-solving mindset — you figure things out and make them better.

  • Clear communicator who values good documentation.

Bonus Points

  • CAD experience (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, etc.).
