From the original posting

About the role:

We're looking for a Product Manager to join our Virtual Fencing team, focused on mapping. Please note this role is based at our Auckland HQ.

Mapping is the foundation of Halter’s virtual fencing. Before we can guide a single cow, we need a digital version of the farm or ranch: every fence line, every gate, every water trough, in the right place. We use that map, and the context of each farm or ranch, to guide more than 1.5 million cows every single day.

This role is all about deeply understanding how our product works and what our farmers need from it, then taking those insights and converting them into solutions. This role sits right at the intersection of technology and farming. You'll become the expert in virtual fencing and own mapping end to end: the tools farmers use, the tool our mapping team uses, the imagery and accuracy underneath it all. As we grow across New Zealand, Australia, the US and South America, we need to scale our mapping solutions so we continue to improve farmers' and ranchers’ lives.

You don’t necessarily need any Product Management experience but it’s crucial you’ve got top notch critical thinking skills. If you’re curious, hungry to learn, love solving hard problems and are passionate about agriculture, let’s talk!

Who we're looking for:

  • You’re highly curious and hungry to become an expert in Virtual Fencing and understand how the tech really works.

    • You’re a critical thinker who is able to break down complex problems. Even when the pressure’s on, you can get to simple solutions.

  • You love working at a fast pace with loose requirements. You’re confident navigating uncertainty, breaking down messy problems, testing ideas, pivoting and getting stuck in.

  • You can clearly and simply communicate concepts or decisions to engineers, farmers and other Halter teams.

  • You sweat the details because you know they matter, especially for complex products used in demanding, real-world environments.

Who day could look like:

  • You will get out on farm regularly, gumboots on, talking to farmers about their operation, understanding how Halter fits into their day.

  • Spend time with our internal mapping team, understanding how they work and where the tool slows them down.

  • Work out what farmers truly need (not just what they're asking for) and how it should work in a real dairy or beef environment.

  • Help decide what gets built next and why, prioritising based on what'll make the biggest difference on farm and help us scale.

  • Work closely with other Product Managers, Engineers and Designers to get features built and shipped.

  • Make sure new features actually land well for farmers, from rollout through to adoption.

Why our team loves working at Halter:

  • Work that genuinely matters. Every now and again a company comes along that transforms an entire industry and leaves the world in a better place. Our team gets to be part of something truly meaningful, helping farmers improve their livelihoods, spend more time with their families, and build more sustainable operations.
