From the original posting

As a Senior Curriculum Engineer, you'll work with a team of creative educators and software engineers dedicated to building the future of online technical education, developing courses for MongoDB University.

MongoDB University is the online training department of MongoDB and is chartered with building high-quality training at a basic and advanced level across the entire MongoDB product stack. The University team is focused on creating skill-based learning content designed to equip enterprise users and a general audience with the core skills needed to use MongoDB successfully.

Your work will directly impact the learning experience of millions of developers around the world, helping them become experts in the field by honing their skills on the fastest-growing modern database.

This role will be based remotely in Ireland.

What You’ll Do

You’ll work closely with a team of curriculum engineers, curriculum designers, and in-house subject-matter experts to build course materials focused on upskilling enterprise customers. You'll write presentations for our partner teams, design hands-on activities, and deliver content, ensuring these MongoDB learning resources are relevant, interactive, and reflect the challenges developers encounter in the real world.

In this role, we expect you to continually deepen your knowledge of MongoDB and become an expert in a subset of its offerings. You will articulate the key concepts and skills that need to be covered in a training course, write course materials for an enterprise audience, design the hands-on exercises, and also support the creation of skill badges that assess a learner's knowledge.

If you are a current software developer or a system administrator, you will be able to add a lot of value to the team as we strive for our training to be from experts who already use our products or similar offerings. If you are new to MongoDB, you'll be expected to learn MongoDB products quickly and articulate how they work.

In this team, you will also get access to experts throughout the company and stay cutting-edge on your technical skills and expertise. MongoDB continues to evolve, and you will have the opportunity to explore new technology areas that will end up being represented as training offerings to train millions of developers in the future.

Your core responsibilities and duties will include the following

  • Ideate and write skill-based course materials and videos
  • Contribute to our stack of AI-tooling to help us create high-quality content
  • Create code and visualizations to demonstrate technical concepts as you teach MongoDB
  • Participate in the creation of our skill checks and certification questions
  • Collaborate with in-house subject-matter experts, curriculum designers, video producers, product and marketing managers to develop a course from discovery to launch
  • Opportunity to represent MongoDB at public events such as webinars and conferences, as training is featured prominently at MongoDB events
  • Become an expert on part of the MongoDB product set to help drive content strategy and direction along with our Product Strategy and Curriculum team
  • Continually expand your domain knowledge of MongoDB, software development, and learning sciences

What You’ll Need

You’re a good fit for this role if you have a demonstrable track record in working with MongoDB or similar technologies already as a developer, DBA, or in some other capacity with a minimum of 3-5 years of industry experience. Your track record is more important than a Computer Science or similar degree. You should have writing and/or instructional experience that demonstrates an ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a general audience. We expect you to be able to review content and code. As a Curriculum Engineer, you are counting on your experience to translate technical concepts to help others learn MongoDB.

What this is not

A development role. Some prototyping is required; however, the emphasis is on content development, instruction, and subject matter expertise.

You’ll be successful in this role if your qualifications and skills match the following

  • Proven track record in working with databases, MongoDB or NoSQL experience is a plus
  • Experience presenting and teaching instructional content for a general audience
  • Proficiency in at least one contemporary programming language (Python, Node.js, Java, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of Linux
  • Some cloud experience
  • Experience with modern AI tooling
  • A passion for education and learning
