What to Expect

We are seeking a Senior Electronics Engineer to join our R&D department in Geneva. The successful candidate will take technical ownership of high-performance electronic subsystems that accurately drive and read out ultra-sensitive, fast opto-electronic modules (e.g., lasers, SPADs, interferometers). This is a hands-on role spanning architecture, schematic/PCB design, bring-up, and verification, with a strong emphasis on analog, RF/high-speed, and mixed-signal design to enable robust, industrial-grade products.

What You'll be Doing

You will be responsible for developing complex electronic hardware from early prototypes to industrialised modules, including low-noise amplification, high-speed/RF signal conditioning, drivers for opto-electronic components, A/D conversion, and optimised power-supply blocks. A key part of the role is designing high-performance, low-noise mixed-signal PCBs, applying robust partitioning, grounding, shielding, and layout techniques to preserve signal integrity and minimise coupling. You will define and review block specifications with system, optical, and firmware engineers, and you will lead technical trade-offs around noise, bandwidth, timing, and electromagnetic compatibility. You will plan and execute bring-up and verification in the lab, using structured test methods and data-driven analysis to ensure compliance with requirements and reliability targets. You will also coordinate and technically guide subcontractors and suppliers, and help evolve the team’s design process, documentation, and review practices.

  • Own the design and verification of analog, mixed-signal, and RF/high-speed electronic subsystems, from architecture through schematic/PCB, bring-up, and industrialisation
  • Act as the analog/RF reference in R&D, driving cross-team specifications, design reviews, and supplier execution to deliver robust, production-ready hardware

What you'll Bring

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic or Opto-electronic Engineering (or equivalent) and at least seven years of relevant experience designing complex, high-performance hardware modules. You have strong expertise in analog and mixed-signal design (low-noise, precision, and high-speed) and RF fundamentals (impedance matching, transmission lines, filtering), and you apply signal-integrity and power-integrity best practices to deliver repeatable performance—including on high-performance, low-noise mixed-signal PCBs.

You are comfortable creating and reviewing schematics and PCB layouts (Altium Designer), using simulation and modelling tools (e.g., LTspice), and working hands-on with laboratory instruments (oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, signal generators) to validate performance. You communicate clearly with internal stakeholders and can present technical results and recommendations. Fluency in English is required; French is an advantage.

  • Senior-level analog and RF/high-speed hardware expertise, with proven delivery of industrial-grade electronics from prototype to product
  • Structured, hands-on engineer who can lead technical decisions, verification, and cross-functional execution in a fast-paced R&D environment

You'll be a great fit if:

You bring experience driving hardware for sensitive opto-electronic systems where noise, timing, jitter and bandwidth are critical, and you are comfortable balancing technical performance with manufacturability and testability. You naturally take ownership, mentor others through design and review, and help establish a rigorous design flow to support fast integration into products.

Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Our benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, matching 401(k), unlimited PTO and paid holidays, parental/adoption leave, legal insurance, and a home technology stipend. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided when a candidate receives an offer of employment.

Please note that in the absence of confirming you are a U.S. Person for export control and government contracts work purposes, IonQ may choose not to apply for a license or decline to use a license exception (if available) for you to access export-controlled technology that may require authorization, and similarly, you may not qualify for government contracts work that requires U.S. Persons, and IonQ may decline to proceed with your application on those bases alone. Accordingly, we will have some additional questions regarding your immigration status that will be used for export control and compliance purposes, and the answers will be reviewed by compliance personnel to ensure compliance with federal law.
