The Impact You'll Make
Upside has established itself in fuel and scaled into grocery. Restaurant is the vertical with the most headroom and the least built — and this role owns it. As the Product Manager for the restaurant vertical, you'll operate like an entrepreneur inside a company that already has distribution, data, and a proven measurement engine: you decide which restaurant segments to win, what the wedge product is, and how the economics have to work for a restaurant operator to see real, provable profit. That means adapting Upside's core incrementality system to restaurant behavior, shaping the offer optimization models that price every promotion, and building the merchant-facing product that turns measured profit into a partner who renews and expands. Few PM roles come with this much ownership over a real business.
What You'll Do
Own the strategy and roadmap for Upside's restaurant vertical on the merchant side — segment prioritization, feature requirements, and the path to scale.
Adapt Upside's core incrementality and measurement system to restaurant economics, where visit cadence, ticket size, margin structure, and promotion sensitivity all behave differently than fuel or grocery.
Partner with data science on restaurant offer optimization — pressure-testing model assumptions, surfacing limitations, and translating model behavior into terms a restaurant operator understands and trusts.
Drive transaction and profit growth for restaurant partners, and own the metrics that prove it.
Build the merchant-facing product experience that demonstrates value: measurement, reporting, onboarding, and the tools account teams use to make the case.
Partner with sales and account management to drive adoption and retention within restaurants, and act as the voice of the restaurant vertical in company-level forums.
Make build-vs-buy-vs-integrate calls on the POS, payments, and data integrations the vertical depends on.
Set and drive OKRs for the vertical, and lead cross-functionally — engineering, data science, design, sales, accounts, and marketing — without direct authority.
Competencies You'll Need
6+ years of product management experience, including B2B or merchant-facing products in retail, restaurant technology, payments, or ecommerce.
Demonstrated 0-to-1 ownership: has built a product line or business area from early stage rather than optimizing a mature one.
Strong command of unit economics and measurement — incrementality, attribution, margin math — and the ability to defend a methodology to a skeptical partner.
Hands-on experience working with data science or ML teams on models that drive pricing, offer, or targeting decisions.
Able to synthesize granular technical and quantitative detail into clear narratives for very different audiences, from an ML engineer to an independent restaurant owner.
Exceptional influencing skills; builds deep trust with sales and account teams whose buy-in the vertical depends on.
Strong user empathy for small and mid-sized business operators, and the judgment to know which of their requests to build and which to decline.
Thrives in ambiguity with a metrics-and-experimentation-driven approach to decisions.
