Joblaze insights
Quick facts
From the original posting
DeepL is not just a translation tool; we are building the Operating System for Global Communication. We are the rare AI company that builds the entire stack in-house: from training next-gen LLMs on our own NVIDIA DGX SuperPODs to delivering real-time Language AI to over 300 million users and 200,000+ businesses globally.
You will join the Identity and Access Management team. Owning DeepL's full identity stack: organisation, account and session management, SSO federation, SCIM provisioning, and the OIDC provider, for both internal and external users. It is the foundation every DeepL product relies on to authenticate and authorise users securely and at scale. When identity is unavailable, no one can log in, so reliability and performance sit at the heart of everything the team does.
We are shifting gears from "Software-First" to "Product-First." We don't hire engineers to simply maintain legacy endpoints or close Jira tickets. We hire Missionaries — builders who obsess over the Why before the How. You will contribute across the stack, shipping features that create delightful, frictionless experiences for both external developers and internal engineering teams.
Own the Identity Experience End-to-End: You will architect and build complex, user-facing features across our identity stack. You will own business-critical systems from the initial problem definition through to architectural design, deployment, and production reliability. You measure success by user impact, not just pull requests merged
Build for "Consumer-Grade" Enterprise: You understand that authentication and authorization systems cannot fail. You build for reliability and maintainability, while delivering a user-friendly experience. You will lead incident response, and continuously raise the bar on code quality and operational health
Collaborate to Raise the Bar: You will work closely with teammates across Identity and adjacent teams - other product teams, Product Management and Support. You will lead designs, scoping, shaping, and solving hard product and technical challenges in collaboration with your team and other engineers
Drive Technical Pragmatism: Whether using our core stack (C#/.NET Core, Kubernetes, Postgres) or exploring new tools, you choose the technology that solves the customer problem most effectively, ensuring long-term maintainability over short-term trends. You use AI for boilerplate code, test generation, and debugging, allowing you to focus your cognitive energy on high-value architectural decisions and complex problem-solving
Extreme Ownership & Operational Excellence: You own your services end-to-end (production operations, incident response, and on-call) and you're motivated by pushing reliability toward four nines. You write comprehensive tests, monitor the systems in production, and you treat each incident as an opportunity to learn
A "System Thinker" Mindset: You don't just know syntax; you understand failure modes, system boundaries, and how your code impacts the broader architecture at scale. You can design systems that deliver high availability for our millions of users.
Backend Mastery at Scale (C# / .NET): You have deep expertise designing scalable backend systems and distributed architectures, and you've worked with high-scale distributed systems in production. Strong system design is core to how you work. Roughly 80-90% of the work is backend; working on the frontend (React/Javascript) is a welcome plus, not a requirement
Enterprise Domain Curiosity: You are interested in the hard problems of B2B SaaS Identity - authentication (SSO/OIDC), authorization, and requirements such as security and auditing. You understand that these aren't "boring details"; they are the pillars of trust for enterprise clients
AI-Native Velocity: You leverage AI-powered tools (like GitHub Copilot or Claude) to accelerate your velocity and eliminate repetitive toil. You use AI for boilerplate code, test generation, and debugging, allowing you to focus your cognitive energy on high-value architectural decisions and complex problem-solving
A Note on Our Hiring Process: DeepL hires for the Company, not just a specific team. We operate a Unified Engineering Pipeline. If you pass our bar, we will match you to the highest-priority role that fits your skillset—whether that is in Core Product, Platform, Voice, or Enterprise. We prioritize "Missionaries" who want to solve the biggest problems, wherever they live in the stack.
What we offer
Diverse and internationally distributed team: joining our team means becoming part of a large, global community with people of more than 90 nationalities. We're more than just colleagues; we're a group of professionals with a shared mission to connect diverse cultures. Our global presence is growing–we've doubled in size nearly every year, with our employees based in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, the US, and Japan, and we continue to expand our network.
Virtual Shares: An ownership mindset in every role. We believe everyone should share in our success, and that’s why every employee receives Virtual Shares, linking your contribution directly to DeepL’s growth and rewarding you with a stake in our future.
