Software Engineer, AI Teammates Experience

Asana is seeking an experienced and empathetic Software Engineer to join our AI Teammates Experience team. Asana’s AI Teammates are fundamentally changing the way teams collaborate in and outside of Asana by giving teams access to AI agents that can take on tasks and collaboratively work with human colleagues to complete them. You’ll be building engaging experiences that enable our customers to work effectively with their AI Teammates. You’ll build the interaction and product surfaces for teams, users, and admins, working closely with foundation teams on prompting systems, evaluation/testing infrastructure, and agent capabilities. We’re looking for an engineer who is passionate about AI, curious to learn about everything from how people interact with agents to prompt engineering.

This role can be based in our San Francisco offices with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. About the team

AI Teammates Experience owns the end-to-end user-facing experience of AI Teammates, from first discovery and adoption through ongoing collaboration. We build for three core audiences: teams, admins, and individual users. We help teams create, discover, interact with, and manage their AI Teammates; help admins deploy AI Teammates successfully in their organization; and help users discover and work with their Personal Teammates.

AI teammates are autonomous, specialized AI agents designed to work alongside human teams, handling complex, multi-step workflows like product management, customer service, and sales. They can help teams make progress across workflows around the clock, share context to boost productivity, and act as collaborators rather than just chatbots.

What you’ll achieve

• Drive full-stack development of robust systems and product surfaces that enable users to guide and work alongside their AI Teammates.
• Collaborate with cross-functional product, design, and platform teams to turn cutting-edge AI capabilities into intuitive product surfaces that provide clear value for teams.
• Contribute to the next generation of interaction patterns for AI, from conversational flows and human-in-the-loop workflows to experiences that maintain context over time and build user trust.
• Apply empathetic product judgment and rapid experimentation to iterate on features, ensuring high quality, usability, and measurable impact.

About you

• Have 3+ years experience working across the stack within large, well-maintained codebases.
• Have experience building product features in complex technical domains; experience with applied AI, prompting systems, evaluation/testing infrastructure, or agent-style workflows is a plus.
• Have a track record of working with your team to scope and deliver impactful features.
• Are able to bring structure, judgment, and collaboration to evolving AI/product challenges.
• Enjoy working in a highly cross-functional environment with product, design, and other engineering partners.
• Engage with your colleagues in a spirit of openness and curiosity.
• Find AI fascinating and are excited about its potential to improve how people work.
• Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across functions.
• Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making

For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $202,000 - $299,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.

In addition to base salary, your compensation package may include additional components such as equity, sales incentive pay (for most sales roles), and benefits.
