About Joblaze
What Joblaze is
Joblaze is a search engine for tech jobs. It collects openings from employers' own hiring pages and lets you search and filter them by skill, seniority, location and remote type. We do not employ anyone and we are not a recruiter. When you apply, you apply to the employer.
Where the jobs come from
Most postings are read from the public job boards that companies publish through applicant tracking systems: Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby. For companies that use something else, we read the company's own careers page with a headless browser. We also read some venture capital firms' portfolio job boards (those run on Consider), and Remotive, a remote-jobs board with a public API, for remote roles.
The apply button on a job page sends you to the employer's own posting. We do not take applications ourselves.
How fresh the data is
Each company is rescanned on a schedule. The most closely watched companies are rescanned every 6 hours, the next group every 12 hours, and the rest once a day. Every scan that still finds a posting refreshes its "last seen" time.
A posting that has not been seen for 7 days is marked stale: its page stays up with a warning that the role may no longer be available, and it no longer appears in search results. After 30 days without being seen it is closed, and its page returns a "gone" (HTTP 410) response.
How we process postings
The text of each posting is copied from the employer's page. An AI model (OpenAI's GPT-4o-mini by default) then reads it and fills in structured fields: category, seniority, employment type, remote type, location, technologies and tools, benefits, years of experience, visa sponsorship, a stated salary range, and a short summary. The model is told to use only what the posting states and to leave a field empty when the posting does not say.
The model can still get things wrong. The original posting is always one click away, and it is the source of truth.
How salary figures are calculated
We only use salaries that employers disclose in the posting. We never estimate a salary for a role that does not state one.
- Only annual salaries count. Hourly and monthly rates are left out so medians stay comparable.
- Salaries in other currencies are converted to US dollars using exchange rates that are refreshed daily.
- For a range, we use its lower bound, which makes the medians conservative. Annual figures below $10,000 or above $1,500,000 are discarded as likely errors.
- The salary report shows the 25th percentile, median and 75th percentile for currently open postings. A skill is listed only when at least 10 postings disclose a salary.
- Each skill's salary trend groups postings by the month they were first seen. A month is shown only when at least 25 postings disclosed a salary, and a skill gets a trend page only when at least 3 months qualify. The month scanning began and the current, unfinished month are left out.
These numbers describe the postings Joblaze has seen, not the whole job market.
