About the Role
We are seeking a Director of General Ledger Accounting to lead the general ledger function and own the month-end close process. This role will ensure accurate, timely financial results, oversee accounting processes within NetSuite, and coordinate across all accounting workstreams to deliver a complete and well-controlled close.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on NetSuite experience, and the ability to lead teams, resolve complex issues, and improve processes as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities
Own the month-end close: Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual GL close activities, including the close calendar, deliverables, dependencies, review procedures, and issue resolution.
Oversee general ledger integrity: Review journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Ensure balances are accurate, supported, and recorded in the appropriate period.
Coordinate all accounting workstreams: Partner with accounts payable, revenue and accounts receivable, payroll, equity, fixed assets, leases, intercompany, treasury, and tax teams to ensure timely inputs, clear ownership, and consistent accounting treatment.
Lead NetSuite accounting processes: Serve as the accounting lead for NetSuite, partnering with systems teams on workflows, chart of accounts governance, reporting, integrations, and system enhancements. Oversee period-close procedures and controls over GL data.
Review financial results: Lead balance sheet and income statement fluctuation reviews, investigate unusual activity, and communicate key drivers and unresolved issues to accounting leadership and FP&A.
Strengthen controls and documentation: Establish and maintain accounting policies, close procedures, reconciliation standards, and review controls. Drive timely resolution of reconciling items and control deficiencies.
Support financial reporting and audits: Deliver accurate trial balances and supporting schedules, coordinate audit requests across accounting workstreams, and resolve audit findings.
Improve efficiency and scalability: Identify opportunities to automate journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting; reduce manual work; and shorten the close while maintaining accuracy.
Develop the team: Lead and coach the GL accounting team, set clear expectations, balance workloads, and build accountability for quality and deadlines.
Support business changes: Assess the GL and close implications of new entities, transactions, systems, and business initiatives, coordinating implementation across relevant teams.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred..
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years managing teams and leading the financial close.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
Hands-on NetSuite experience, including close management, financial reporting, and accounting process improvements.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple accounting workstreams, manage dependencies, and resolve issues under tight deadlines.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to explain accounting issues clearly to finance and business partners.
Experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, and consolidation preferred.
What Success Looks Like
A predictable, timely close; accurate and well-supported GL balances; clear accountability across accounting workstreams; effective use of NetSuite; and a team that continually improves the quality and efficiency of financial reporting.
