From the original posting

About the role.

We’re looking for an electronics engineer to take full ownership of key parts of our collar hardware. This isn’t a support role, you’ll be driving design decisions, solving complex problems in the field, and seeing your work through from concept to mass deployment. You’ll work across everything from ultra-low power design, RF optimisation, antenna tuning, and solar conversion, to battery systems, audio, and high-voltage pulse circuits.

It’s deeply technical and fast-moving, the kind of environment where strong engineers thrive. We want someone who’s excited to build for the real world, not just the lab. Someone who gets energy from turning tough constraints into smart solutions.

What your day could look like.

  • Rapidly design, develop, and test highly reliable electronics for world-leading animal wearables and infrastructure.

  • End-to-end electronic design ownership including component selection, analysis, simulation, schematic design, PCB layout, prototyping, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and testing.

  • Consistently innovate to improve reliability and hardware performance while minimizing cost to hit ambitious targets.

  • Collaborate with firmware, advanced systems, mechanical, production and farm teams.

  • Design for manufacturing, design for testing, and design for EMC.

  • Develop and execute validation plans to verify all critical features.

  • Root cause analysis of manufacturing and field returns, providing clinical feedback for design improvements.

Who we’re looking for.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A tertiary degree in Electronics Engineering, or similar relevant qualification.

  • At least 1+ years' professional experience, having grown your craft at a larger engineering organisation before taking on more autonomy.

  • Proven experience designing reliable electronics hardware and successfully delivering those designs into high-volume mass production, ideally including full product lifecycle ownership.

  • Experience designing and implementing circuit boards using MCUs, SoCs, IMUs, GPS, WiFi, LoRa, I2C, SPI, OpAmps, ADCs/DACs, SMPS, LDO and analog/digital mixed-signal design.

  • Experience in ultra-low power IoT electronics design - power generation (solar, high voltage generation and insulation), power conversion (DC-DC), and power consumption/usage optimisation.

  • Proficiency with EE tools (SPICE simulation, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, LCR meters, current clamps, HV meters, etc.).

  • Strong organisation, time management, and communication skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a self-driven and demanding startup atmosphere.

  • Based in Auckland, with travel as required to China and Thailand predominantly

  • Previous experience in a startup or scale-up environment is highly desirable but not essential.

Our Office First Approach.

There’s a reason you visit your friends in person, live with your family and don’t do dinners over Zoom. Humans are wired for connection. We believe a world-class, in-person office culture is the best way for high-performing teams.

Being office first is a core pillar of our culture. We believe in-person connections are key to driving your own growth, learning, impact, and building genuine long-lasting relationships. Strong relationships make it easier to disagree, give feedback, and do meaningful and aligned work. We don’t like having heaps of rules or policies, but this means having strong, trusted relationships is critical.

We’re office first, not office only. This means working from the office everyday is our default setting, but we flex when we need to. We have a high-trust culture, so everyone is trusted to do what’s best for Halter.

Our office vibe is something special, it’s hard to describe until you’re here, but people at Halter who have come from fully remote or hybrid companies say they could never go back - the high energy and spectacular people they are now surrounded by everyday makes work so enjoyable. Your growth, your learning and your impact is truly unlimited here, and a big part of that comes from being together solving problems, innovating, building context, and constantly learning from each other.

Why our team loves working at Halter:

  • Work that genuinely matters. Every now and again a company comes along that transforms an entire industry and leaves the world in a better place. Our team gets to be part of something truly meaningful, helping farmers improve their livelihoods, spend more time with their families, and build more sustainable operations.
