Engineering Manager - Monetization

About the role:

Join Dashlane as an Engineering Manager leading the Monetization Engineering team, the financial and transactional engine powering Dashlane’s global growth. Millions of users and world-class B2B organizations rely on Dashlane every day, and your team owns the mission-critical infrastructure that turns product value into revenue: checkout flows, recurring subscription lifecycles, payment processor integrations, trial conversions, and plans & pricing packaging. When a user upgrades their account or an enterprise expands their subscription, your team’s systems ensure that high-stakes transaction is frictionless, bulletproof, and instantaneous.

You will have deep technical ownership of Dashlane’s billing and subscription architecture. This includes stewarding current and future billing systems, driving complex system migrations, and consolidating global payment gateways. In Monetization, high availability and transactional consistency are non-negotiable: you are operating the single most revenue-sensitive systems at Dashlane.

As a leader, you aren't just shipping features; you are cultivating an ownership-driven engineering culture. You will lead, coach, and champion a high-caliber, distributed team of server and web engineers. Working in tight synergy with Product, Design, Finance, and Data, you will foster technical excellence, operational rigor, and psychological safety, delivering platforms and workflows that directly drive ARR, reduce churn, and scale our commercial footprint.

Location:

You will be based in Lisbon, with English as your working language. At Dashlane, you will:

• Lead and cultivate a high-trust, high-accountability team: Coach, support, and mentor a distributed group of server and web engineers, empowering them to deliver independently with low friction and high impact.

• Own the transactional backbone: Oversee the architecture and operational health of Dashlane’s billing system, subscription lifecycle engines, checkout experiences, and internal back-office administration tools.

• Drive complex technical initiatives & migrations: Actively shape technical strategy, author and review Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and guide large-scale efforts that de-risk the platform as we scale upmarket.

• Bridge business strategy and technical execution: Partner deeply with Product Management, Design, and cross-functional partners in Finance, Data, and Legal to rapidly test, iterate, and roll out new plans, tiers, and pricing models without compromising billing integrity.

• Champion system reliability & data integrity: Treat zero-downtime, financial accuracy, and data consistency as primary product features—ensuring our transactional ledgers and subscription states are always resilient and auditable.

• Maintain a secure, low-scope compliance posture: Ensure billing and payment integrations correctly leverage our processors' PCI compliance to keep Dashlane's own PCI scope minimal, while partnering with Security and Legal on data-handling and regulatory requirements as we expand into new markets and payment methods.

• Accelerate engineering efficiency & AI adoption: Foster continuous improvement across our SDLC, leveraging modern tools and AI workflows to accelerate delivery, reduce toil, and streamline debugging.

• Participate in engineering hiring & community: Recruit and hire exceptional software engineers while championing Dashlane’s engineering brand within the broader tech community.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering

• 2+ years of experience in people and project management (ideally in a distributed environment)

• Fluency in English

What we’re looking for:

• Demonstrated Engineering Leadership: Proven track record of managing and growing high-performing engineering teams (including senior and staff levels) in a modern, distributed/remote environment

• Systems & Architectural Acumen: Strong background in distributed backend systems, event-driven architectures, relational databases, and transactional integrity. You can challenge technical designs, weigh trade-offs pragmatically, and identify bottlenecks before they impact production.

• Cross-Functional Fluency: Comfort partnering not just with PMs and designers, but directly with finance and operational stakeholders where business requirements demand extreme precision.

• Decisive & Action-Oriented: A pragmatic, bias-toward-progress approach—skilled at slicing complex technical migrations into safe, iterative phases while keeping team momentum high.

• Security Mindset: Strong interest in cybersecurity

• AI Tooling Experience: Someone actively leveraging AI tools in their current work, with an informed perspective on how AI impacts team delivery, productivity, and engineering quality

We're Also Looking For:

• Domain Expertise in Billing, FinTech, or Monetization: Practical experience with recurring billing architectures, subscription lifecycles, and payment processor integrations (e.g., Stripe, PayPal, mobile app store in-app purchases).

• Tech Stack: Javascript/Typescript experience

• Company Size: Experience with a company at roughly Dashlane's size and scaling up (100-500 employees)

• Education: You have a BS in Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Management, or similar relevant field

• Experience shipping software across varied, constrained client environments (browser extensions, native apps, embedded SDKs) where platform quirks and distribution constraints shape technical decisions.
