About the job

Keep Graphcore’s Bristol laboratories safe, reliable and ready for engineers to test AI hardware.

As a Lab Technician in DC Engineering, you’ll support the facilities behind hardware bring-up, validation and characterisation. You’ll help engineering teams use electronic systems and test equipment safely and effectively.

Your preventative maintenance and troubleshooting will help keep laboratory equipment available for engineers’ work. By checking electrostatic discharge controls, you’ll help protect the hardware being developed and tested.

You’ll set up and calibrate test equipment, manage laboratory assets, and support board, cable and wire modifications. You’ll also oversee goods coming into and leaving the laboratories.

Beyond equipment support, you’ll shape standard operating procedures for multidisciplinary laboratory teams. Your technical guidance will help colleagues meet safety, quality and regulatory requirements in their everyday work.

The team and culture

The Laboratory team supports engineering groups with installations, repairs and equipment modifications. You’ll work with engineers to understand their technical requirements and get test benches ready within project timescales.

The team maintains accurate technical documentation and works to defined laboratory practices. You’ll contribute practical guidance and help junior colleagues develop their skills.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience working in an electronics laboratory and a practical, resourceful approach to technical problems.
  • Ability to set up, calibrate and troubleshoot electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analysers and power supplies.
  • Understanding of electrostatic discharge (ESD) controls and laboratory health and safety requirements, with experience applying safe working practices.
  • Experience repairing and modifying PCB assemblies to IPC-7711/21 and J-STD-001 standards, and inspecting assemblies to IPC-A-610.
  • Experience assembling cables and wire harnesses from drawings to IPC-620 standards.
  • Clear communication across engineering disciplines, with the ability to meet project timescales and mentor junior colleagues.

While we have outlined a set of requirements, we value transferable skills and diverse experiences. We also welcome engineers returning to the profession after a career break, including through returnship routes.
