What to Expect

Heron Power is a startup company building cutting-edge power electronics for the 21st-century grid. We aim to debottleneck the growth of electricity generation and consumption with scalable, innovative, and less costly hardware solutions, accelerating the electrification of everything.

Our first focus goal is to build better converters (inverters & rectifiers) to connect large-scale renewables, storage, and loads to the grid. Heron’s leadership team is made up of seasoned veterans who have designed and shipped gigawatts of power conversion products over the past decade.

We understand that no one individual knows everything. We will all learn a lot together and from each other. We strive to build a collaborative, enriching environment conducive to personal, technical, and career growth. You can expect to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, driven by first principles engineering, solving difficult problems.

Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled manufacturing technician to drive engineering builds, and early manufacturing scale-up of complex power electronics assemblies. You will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, operations and equipment teams to establish repeatable processes, execute and track unit builds, and support product launch development through all phases of the engineering lifecycle. Your technical and timely feedback to the engineering team is pivotal to drive product improvements and advancements with specific attention to safety, quality and reliability. This role is versatile in nature and welcomes innovative, outside-of-the-box thinking to drive excellence in our products.

How You Will Contribute

  • Rig and move large fabricated enclosures, weldments, and sub-assemblies using a 2-ton overhead workstation crane, chain hoists, and a mobile gantry

  • Select, inspect, and rig hardware for each lift: web slings, shackles, eyebolts, and spreader beams; verify working load limits against load weight and sling angle before every pick

  • Identify center of gravity and pick points on large asymmetric assemblies; use tag lines and a spotter to control the load

  • Operate a sit-down counterbalance forklift to receive, stage, and position cabinet frames, panels, and hardware

  • Build and square cabinet structures on rolling assembly fixtures: set panels, install turnbuckle braces, shim, and align to print

  • Torque structural fasteners to spec, verify squareness and flatness, and document before handoff to the next station

  • Perform daily pre-use inspection on slings, hooks, hoists, and forklift; tag out and remove damaged gear from service

  • Work from mechanical drawings, weldment prints, and BOMs; redline and feed back errors so the instructions improve

  • Help build assembly fixtures, carts, and lift aids as we scale the line

  • Keep rigging gear staged, inspected, and organized

What You Will Bring

We have a short list of must-have requirements. We prioritize a strong grip on first principles, hands-on skills, and a sense of initiative. Domain-specific knowledge and experience will help determine the career level for each hire.

Must Have Requirements

  • 3+ years in manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial assembly with hands-on rigging as a regular part of the job

  • Forklift certification; we can certify onsite for the right candidate

  • Demonstrated overhead crane and hoist experience with loads above 500 lb

  • Able to read mechanical drawings, weldment prints, and BOMs

  • Confident with hand and power tools, torque wrenches, and layout/measuring tools

  • Able to lift 50 lb, work from ladders, and stand for a full shift

  • Clear communication and standard crane hand signals

Nice to Haves

  • Qualified rigger training or NCCCO rigger certification

  • Experience with large sheet metal enclosures, switchgear, transformers, or shipping-frame builds

  • Scissor or boom lift certification

  • Welding or structural fabrication background

  • Worked somewhere the process was still being written, and improved it

If you are passionate about technology and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you. Join us in accelerating the electrification of everything at Heron Power.

Heron Power provides competitive compensation (salary and equity) and benefits. The salary for this role ranges from $35-55 per hour.
