From the original posting
The Principal, Debt is a senior deal leader on Crux's Debt Business Management team within Capital Solutions. Reporting to the Head of Debt, the Principal leads a book of debt mandates from IOI through close across Crux's three debt motions: debt origination, debt advisory, and debt attached to tax equity and preferred equity structures. The role spans the full range of debt products, including construction, term, and back-leverage facilities, tax equity and credit bridge loans, equipment financing, and green bonds and securitization.
This role requires a passion for the clean energy transition, a builder's mindset, and a commitment to delivering results in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You thrive on solving complex problems and working collaboratively across teams to drive meaningful impact.
Lead a book of debt mandates from IOI through close as the primary negotiator and senior execution lead — driving lender diligence, structuring, negotiation, documentation, and close to institutional standards
Own transaction velocity and close rates across your deal book, contributing directly to the Debt team's revenue and P&L targets
Author credit memos and pricing recommendations and present transactions to Credit Committee, with rigorous analysis of credit quality, structural terms, risks, and mitigants
Lead deal teams of junior team members — staffing transactions, reviewing underwriting, diligence, and financial models, and mentoring junior team members on credit and execution
Run debt execution with lenders and institutional capital providers inside shared accounts, in partnership with Strategic Bank Capital and Strategic Institutional Capital
Partner with Industry Coverage to qualify opportunities early, take clean drivership of execution at IOI, and provide real-time market and financeability feedback that sharpens sourcing
Partner with Investments on the TE/preferred-equity attach motion, sourcing and pricing competitive debt within agreed turnarounds to deliver integrated capital solutions for sponsors and investors
Lead specific workstreams within the Head of Debt's product agenda — such as new lender programs, financing structures, or term sheet and documentation standards — in partnership with Structuring
Help build and standardize repeatable execution processes across debt motions, and drive adoption of AI-enabled modeling and automation across the deal lifecycle
Partner with Product and Engineering to define and prioritize transaction tooling that increases deal throughput and execution quality
Represent Crux in industry and market dialogues — webinars, whitepapers, and conferences — in coordination with coverage relationship owners
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field; MBA, JD, or advanced degree a plus
8-10+ years of total experience, including 7+ years in renewable energy project finance, infrastructure debt, or structured lending, with a track record of leading construction, term, back-leverage, or debt capital markets transactions as the primary negotiator
Deep expertise in project finance debt structures for solar, wind, and storage, including hands-on negotiation of credit agreements, intercreditor arrangements, and the interplay between tax equity and debt
Experience preparing and presenting transactions to credit or investment committee, ideally with perspective from both the lender and sponsor/advisory side
Experience leading and mentoring deal teams, including reviewing junior team members' underwriting and modeling work
Exceptional negotiation and relationship skills with developers, lenders, and investors, and the credibility to lead senior-level conversations
Strong judgment and comfort operating with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-scaling environment
Strong interest in leveraging technology and AI to improve debt execution
