About Base

Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role

We're hiring a Regulatory Compliance Specialist to join Legal Regulatory and Policy and own day-to-day execution across an expanding set of state and federal regulators.

Base's regulatory footprint has quadrupled in the past year. Each new market is a new framework, a new set of filings, and a new ongoing compliance regime. This role is the second dedicated headcount in the function, you will own real regulatory scope from day one, build the playbook for the next set of market entries, and grow with the function as the portfolio scales.

You'll work closely with Policy, Legal, Launch, Deployment, and Member Experience. You'll have clear ownership over assigned regulators and direct visibility into how regulatory execution shapes the commercial roadmap.

What You’ll Do

  • Own day-to-day compliance execution for one or more assigned regulators, with clear accountability for filings, reporting cadences, and regulator-facing actions.

  • Draft, review, and submit regulatory filings — license applications, annual reports, tariff filings, EQR submissions, and complaint responses.

  • Track rulemakings and dockets across active jurisdictions; flag business-model implications and required operational changes.

  • Build and maintain internal compliance frameworks across consumer protection, marketing review, contract authorization, and customer engagement.

  • Partner with Launch, Deployment, and Member Experience to operationalize regulatory requirements at scale — EDI flows, autopay and consent language, marketing approvals, and complaint handling.

What You'll Bring

  • 3+ years of regulatory experience at a utility, retail electric provider, alternative supplier, ISO/RTO, state commission, or regulatory consulting firm — with direct experience filing before state utility commissions.

  • Working knowledge of ISO/RTO markets and their rules; comfort reading administrative code and tariffs and translating them into operational requirements.

  • Direct, fact-based written communication style and comfort drafting documents that go to regulators.

  • Project management instinct, bias to grab scope rather than wait for it, and comfort in a fast-moving, unstructured environment. Bonus: FERC Order 2222 implementation, DER aggregation, or distributed battery storage regulatory experience.

About this Team

Regulatory Compliance is a small, high-ownership function inside Legal, Regulatory, and Policy (LRP). We operate with clear accountability, tight feedback loops, and a strong bias to action. Regulatory Compliance works closely with Policy, Legal, and the operating teams that build and run Base's markets, keeping us clean with the regulators that govern every part of how Base delivers power.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

Our Values

  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

  • Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.

Do the best work of your life at Base.
