About the team

Cloudflare’s mission is to help build a better internet and the Threat Application Services (TAS) team lives at the core of that effort. The team builds the automated services and systems that transform Cloudflare’s massive network telemetry into actionable intelligence. We empower customers with products to combat advanced threats, enabling them to query, investigate, and automatically mitigate attacks using Cloudflare’s unique visibility into global threat actor activity.

At a high level, the Threat Application Services team is the engineering engine within Cloudforce One. We are responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of threat intelligence data, from ingestion and enrichment to exposing high-fidelity indicators through the Threat Events platform and high-performance APIs. Our work ensures that threat intelligence is not just a report, but a scalable, real-time defensive layer across the Cloudflare stack.

About the Role

This role is for the Senior Engineering Manager of the Threat Application Services team within Cloudforce One’s Engineering organization. You will lead a team of high-performing engineers dedicated to building and scaling the Cloudforce One Threat Events platform, our external Threat Intel APIs, and the backend systems that integrate Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) directly into products like WAF and Gateway for automated mitigation. You will also lead hiring efforts to expand our engineering capabilities as we build the next generation of agentic threat intelligence tools.

What you'll do

You will be responsible for the architectural direction and operational excellence of the services owned by your team, ensuring our intelligence platforms meet the latency and reliability requirements of Enterprise security operations. You will also drive the professional development of your direct reports and collaborate with product managers and security researchers to turn complex threat data into intuitive, automated customer experiences.

You thrive in a fast-paced environment where software engineering meets security research. You have experience delivering scalable distributed systems, managing complex data pipelines, and leading teams through the transition from "getting things done" to building world-class, reliable products.

This role may require flexibility to be on-call outside of standard working hours to address technical issues as needed.

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience with AI-assisted development and agentic AI workflows.
  • Prior experience building high-performance APIs or platforms for threat intelligence, security operations, or large-scale data analytics.
  • 8+ years of Software Development experience, with a focus on Go, JavaScript, or distributed systems.
  • Led high-performing engineering teams for over 8 years, responsible for architectural direction and operational excellence of large-scale distributed security platforms (e.g., Threat Intel APIs, automated mitigation systems). Proven ability to manage technical debt, drive professional development through strong mentorship, and excel at planning and execution to deliver predictable, world-class products in a high-growth environment.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing technical debt in a high-growth environment.
  • Understanding of the Cyber Kill Chain and how to automate the ingestion and distribution of IOCs (IPs, domains, hashes, JA3/4 fingerprints).
  • Experience with edge computing (e.g., Workers), SQL-at-the-edge (D1/SQLite), and building systems that scale to handle trillions of signals.
  • Excel at planning and execution to deliver predictable, reliable features for security teams.
  • Strong mentorship and coaching skills to support the career growth of engineers in a specialized security engineering domain.
