Senior Product Engineer (Full Stack)

Doctronic | New York City or San Francisco (hybrid) | Full-time

The role

Doctronic gives people free, private access to AI health guidance and affordable visits with human physicians. Millions of consultations already flow through the product.

We are hiring a Senior Product Engineer to build features used by patients, clinicians, and healthcare partners.

This is a full-stack role. We do not split product engineering into frontend and backend lanes. A project may require a patient workflow in Next.js, a FastAPI endpoint, a new data model, and changes to how the service runs in production. You will work across those boundaries to ship the complete feature.

We expect product engineers to work AI-natively. Coding agents are part of daily delivery, not an occasional assistant. You will use them to explore code, plan changes, implement, test, review, debug, and automate repeated work. You remain responsible for product decisions, system design, and the correctness of every change.

What you will do

  • Build patient experiences for onboarding, AI consultations, health records, prescriptions, physician visits, and follow-up care.

  • Connect AI consultations with clinical workflows so patients can move from guidance to treatment.

  • Turn new clinical and AI capabilities into clear product features with appropriate safeguards.

  • Build tools and integrations for clinicians and healthcare partners.

  • Improve performance, accessibility, privacy, and reliability across web and mobile.

  • Use agents to run parallel investigations, shorten the path from idea to tested production code, and turn repeated work into shared automation.

  • Review product usage and feedback after launch, then improve the feature.

What we are looking for

  • Experience shipping user-facing products across frontend and backend systems.

  • Strong skills in at least one part of the stack and the ability to work effectively in the rest.

  • Good product judgment and attention to interface quality.

  • The ability to define and deliver a solution when the initial requirements are incomplete.

  • Daily experience directing coding agents. You know how to supply context, split work, verify results, and decide when to work directly.

  • A habit of turning manual engineering work into scripts, tools, or reusable agent workflows.

  • Sound decisions about privacy, security, accessibility, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Clear communication with clinical, product, design, AI, and operations teams.

Many candidates will have 5+ years of professional experience. We care more about the products you shipped and your role in shipping them than a specific degree or exact tool match.

Experience in healthcare, fintech, AI products, or another regulated field is useful but not required.

Production stack

Our product includes a Next.js, React, and TypeScript web application; native iOS and Android apps written in Swift and Kotlin; and Python and FastAPI services. Backend systems use MariaDB, SQLAlchemy, Redis, and Celery. Services run in Docker on AWS ECS and integrate with AI providers, telehealth systems, healthcare APIs, and FHIR-based workflows.

You do not need experience with every part of the stack, but you should be able to learn unfamiliar systems and ship across product and backend code.

How we work

  • A small, senior engineering team with high autonomy.

  • Engineers take projects from initial definition through launch and production support.

  • Short planning cycles and frequent releases.

  • High standards for patient safety, privacy, and code quality.

Compensation and benefits

  • New York City and San Francisco base salary: $180,000 to $240,000, plus equity.

  • Benefits reimbursement.
