About the role
The Snr Software Engineer, AI & Infrastructure Planning role helps Cloudflare build, deploy, and operate one of the world's largest distributed networks. You will build an auditable multi-agent system on Cloudflare’s platform to replace notebooks and email threads with agent-driven forecasts, supply plans, cost models, and workflow approvals into agent workflows that planners & executives rely on for decision analysis.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with capacity planning, networking, and data center engineering teams to encode technical domain expertise into structured specifications, formal data contracts, and agent functional capabilities.
- Architect, deploy, and maintain scalable production agents and durable workflows leveraging the Cloudflare Workers ecosystem, including Durable Objects, Workflows, D1, R2, Queues, Vectorize, Workers AI, and AI Gateway.
- Translate core infrastructure planning functions—such as forecasting, supply planning, cost modeling, narrative documentation, and executive approvals—into automated LLM deployment or deterministic logic based agent workflows designed for critical decision-making analysis.
- Implement rigorous risk tiering, formal approval checkpoints, detailed audit logs, and execution lineage to ensure safe autonomous operations.
- Incorporate predictive statistical and machine learning models into agent systems, establishing robust BigQuery data pipelines, optimized access patterns, and continuous monitoring.
- Author comprehensive technical specifications and Requests for Comments (RFCs), perform peer design reviews, and establish architectural standards for AI agent deployment across the organization.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Senior-level software engineering experience, with security conscious production systems you can point to (repos, releases, services you operated).
- Strong TypeScript, and comfort building on serverless or edge runtimes (Cloudflare Workers preferred). HTTP APIs, async, queues, performance.
- Experience with LLMs and agents: tool calling, structured output, multi-step or multi-agent orchestration, prompt and eval iteration.
- Experience with durable state and workflows (Durable Objects, Cloudflare Workflows, or equivalents such as Templets updraoral or Step Functions).
- Demonstrated experience in infrastructure planning: capacity planning, forecasting, networking, CDN, cloud or data center capacity, or adjacent work. We will teach you our specific systems.
- Solid data skills: SQL, a cloud data warehouse (BigQuery preferred), and working knowledge of forecasting and statistical modeling (backtesting, error metrics, knowing when a model is wrong).
- Clear written communication: specs, RFCs, and explanations that planners and executives can use.
Bonus Points
- A data science or ML background (time series, optimization, predictive modeling) and Python for scientific computing.
- Experience with Hono, Zod, OpenAPI, and a modern frontend framework (Astro or React).
- Experience with peering, BGP, ASN and IX data, backbone or transit planning, or colo, power, and procurement planning.
- Experience with agent frameworks (LangGraph, Autogen, A2A) and knowing what to borrow and what to discard.
- CI/CD and infrastructure as code (GitLab CI, Terraform).
- Experience building LLM evaluation frameworks or human-review workflows.
- Bias for simple, scalable designs.
Compensation
Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.
- For Portugal-based hires: Estimated annual salary of €66,000-€91,000
