From the original posting

About the role

TRM is building a highly impactful, collaborative Environmental Crimes intelligence function, with one goal: disrupt the illicit actors behind wildlife trafficking and other environmental crimes, and add real friction to their ability to operate.

As our Senior or Staff Intelligence Analyst, Environmental Crimes, you will own TRM's intelligence on this category end-to-end. You will research, analyze, and publish intelligence on environmental crime networks and the crypto and financial flows behind them, combining on-chain tracing, OSINT, and off-chain data from partners into a picture that law enforcement, NGOs, and private-sector partners can act on.

You will also be the clear TRM owner for our partnership with United for Wildlife and Project Pangolin, serving a global network of partner organizations as a trusted advisor, convener, and the expert user who shapes how TRM's products serve this mission. What makes this role unique: you get to build a new intelligence category from the ground up, on the leading blockchain intelligence platform, with executive sponsorship and direct real-world impact.

The impact you will have

  • Build the environmental crimes threat picture. Research, author, and publish intelligence products (threat assessments, typology reports, trend analysis, actor profiles, network maps) on environmental crime and the illicit finance behind it, and maintain a reusable threat picture inside TRM's intelligence infrastructure.

  • Drive investigations to action. Develop and use a wide variety of intelligence sources, tools, and capabilities — on-chain, OSINT, and partner-provided off-chain data — to identify the wallets, entities, and off-ramps behind environmental crime networks. Produce structured, source-cited targeting packages that support law enforcement and partner investigations and surface disruption opportunities.

  • Own the United for Wildlife partner program. Replace fractional coverage with a managed, repeatable program across a network of 200+ partner organizations: case assistance, analysis, guidance, training, and onboarding.

  • Bring the community together. Organize virtual and in-person cross-sector, cross-border sprints and working groups aimed at real-time disruption, and collaborate with partners such as USFWS, HSI, DOJ, Interpol, UNODC, national agencies, and NGOs.

  • Be TRM's public voice on environmental crimes. Brief internal stakeholders, partners, and leadership, and represent TRM with media, at external events, and with other stakeholders to amplify our intelligence.

  • Shape the product. Act as the representative power user of TRM's mission tooling for the environmental crimes community, turning field needs into structured feedback and partnering with product teams to prototype new analysis and collaboration capabilities.

  • Scale your coverage with AI. Build reusable AI workflows for signal processing, target selection, and drafting, with human validation where it matters, so more of your time goes to high-judgment analysis and partner delivery.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years in intelligence analysis, financial crime, illicit finance, blockchain intelligence, or transnational threat investigations.

  • Domain knowledge of wildlife trafficking, environmental crime, and/or transnational smuggling — or a closely adjacent illicit-trade domain, with a demonstrated ability to ramp fast.

  • Proven ability to independently run complex, multi-source investigations and produce clear, decision-ready, source-cited written intelligence for both expert and non-expert audiences.

  • Strong proficiency in OSINT methodology and tradecraft, with hands-on experience using commercial databases and investigative tools.

  • Production AI fluency: you already use AI and LLMs to accelerate research and analysis, build reusable workflows, and critically evaluate AI output — neither accept-all nor reject-all.

  • A partner- and community-facing operator: you build trust and energize a multi-organization network, and you are comfortable owning an external partner program, not only heads-down analysis.

  • Strong stakeholder communication, briefing, and facilitation skills.

  • Self-directed: you thrive in ambiguity and generate visible wins quickly in an early-stage initiative.

  • Commitment to becoming fluent in blockchain tracing and TRM's tooling. Prior crypto experience is not required; we will train you.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on blockchain or crypto tracing experience across multiple chains and obfuscation techniques (strongly preferred).

  • Experience working alongside law enforcement or NGOs in a conservation or enforcement context.

  • Experience delivering training or enablement to external partners.

  • Experience organizing events or operational working groups that bring diverse stakeholders together to drive action.

  • Regional language skills relevant to key trafficking corridors (e.g., Mandarin, Vietnamese, Thai, Spanish, Portuguese).

About the team

  • You will join TRM's Primary Intelligence organization and work day-to-day with the Environmental Crimes team, a distributed group producing finished intelligence across threat categories.

  • Environmental crime is a category TRM is investing in at the executive level, including our collaboration with United for Wildlife.

  • Mission-first, high-autonomy, execution-oriented culture with rigorous analytical standards.

  • AI-native: analysts use AI daily and build reusable methods that the whole team adopts.

Team operating rhythms

  • Distributed, not distant: a global team that collaborates across time zones with regular overlap for syncs.

  • Slack-first, async communication; @mention for timely responses.

  • Weekly 1:1s and team syncs, plus case and partner-delivery rhythms.

  • Regular engagement with external partners and cross-functional teams.

  • Required online and collaboration hours: Overlap with US, EMEA, and APAC time zones for internal syncs and partner engagement.

  • On-call responsibilities: N/A

  • Travel requirements: Up to 20%. Expect about 6 or more major trips per year for key industry and partner events (e.g., Climate Weeks) plus 2 TRM offsites.

  • Onsite requirements: None; remote, distributed role.
