From the original posting

Joining Legora means three things.

  • We lean in: ownership over titles, outcomes over intentions.

The Role

Legora is growing rapidly and expanding into new markets around the world. Our Talent Acquisition function is evolving alongside that growth, and you will play a significant part in shaping the processes, standards, and hiring approach that support our next chapter.

As our Senior Talent Acquisition Partner in Japan, you will own hiring across functions, primarily focused on Tokyo. You’ll work closely with senior leaders to define what their teams need, find exceptional people, and guide hiring decisions that support Legora’s growth.

This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role with significant autonomy. You’ll combine day-to-day recruiting with improving how we hire, bringing deep knowledge of Japan’s talent market and experience scaling teams in a technology business.

What You’ll Do

Hiring well requires a clear understanding of the business, strong candidate relationships, and the judgement to balance quality and pace. You will bring all three, taking responsibility for searches from the initial brief through to an accepted offer.

You’ll partner with leaders across the business, helping them define roles, assess talent, and make confident decisions. Alongside delivering hires, you’ll contribute to how Talent Acquisition operates in Japan and across the wider organisation.

Specifically, you will:

  • Own full-cycle recruitment across functions in Japan, partnering closely with hiring managers to define role scope, success profiles, and hiring strategies aligned to business priorities.

  • Advise senior leaders on Japan’s talent market, bringing practical insight into candidate availability, compensation, motivations, and recruitment approaches.

  • Build and nurture proactive talent pipelines through direct sourcing, referrals, local networks, and agency partnerships where they add value.

  • Run structured, data-informed hiring processes that balance quality, pace, and consistency, helping interviewers assess candidates against clear criteria.

  • Lead candidate and offer conversations, understanding individual motivations, addressing concerns, and helping candidates make informed decisions about joining Legora.

  • Help shape how Talent operates at Legora, contributing to process design, programs, tooling, employer branding, and broader People initiatives.

  • Deliver an excellent candidate experience from first conversation through to offer, acting as a trusted and credible ambassador for Legora throughout.

What You Bring

You understand that hiring decisions are business decisions. You take time to understand the teams you support, form a clear view of what good looks like, and hold yourself accountable for the quality of your work. You’re comfortable owning the details of a search while advising senior leaders on the bigger picture.

We’re looking for:

  • 5+ years in talent acquisition, including substantial experience recruiting in Japan and helping a technology startup or scale-up grow.

  • A proven track record of hiring across functions and seniority levels, with the ability to learn new talent markets and adapt your approach to different searches.

  • Strong direct sourcing and candidate engagement skills, including experience building relationships with people who are not actively looking for a new role.

  • Experience partnering with senior stakeholders on hiring strategy and team composition, with the confidence to challenge a brief and recommend a better approach.

  • Ownership of the full recruitment process, including assessment, compensation discussions, offer negotiation, and closing.

  • The ability to manage multiple complex searches independently, maintaining quality, pace, and clear communication.

  • Comfort working through ambiguity. You create structure, make sound decisions with the information available, and keep work moving.

  • A collaborative, direct approach, with the judgement to challenge stakeholders constructively and bring hiring decisions to a conclusion.

  • Strong business-level English for effective partnership with regional and global colleagues.

  • A commitment to being based in Tokyo and working from the office five days per week.

A combination of in-house and agency experience would be valuable. Experience recruiting in legal technology, AI, or professional services would also be useful.
