Quick facts
From the original posting
You'll build and lead the tax function at Gamma, reporting to the Director of Accounting. With tens of millions of users worldwide and a fast-growing B2B business, our tax footprint is expanding quickly across global indirect tax, income tax provision, corporate returns, and local filings. You'll be our dedicated tax owner: shaping strategy alongside the Director of Accounting, running the compliance calendar, and managing external advisors, all while staying hands-on with the technical work yourself.
This is a builder's role. We keep finance lean and put automation and AI to work wherever we can, so you'll design tax processes and systems that scale with the business instead of scaling headcount. If you want to own a global tax function end-to-end, with the judgment calls, advisor relationships, and cross-functional influence that come with it, this role was built for you.
Lead Gamma's tax function end-to-end in partnership with the Director of Accounting, owning the global tax calendar and the relationships with our external advisors
Own global indirect tax across our self-serve and enterprise business: US sales and use tax (nexus analysis, registrations, filings) plus international VAT, GST, and digital services tax obligations
Manage the quarterly and annual income tax provision under ASC 740, and review US federal, state, and local corporate income tax returns and estimated payments prepared by external advisors
Handle local and other tax obligations (franchise, property, gross receipts, business licenses), and maintain the controls, documentation, and audit support that keep the function clean
Advise on the tax implications of international expansion, entity structuring, transfer pricing, and equity compensation as Gamma grows globally
Build scalable tax processes and implement tax technology, using AI and automation to keep the function lean as complexity grows
Our team has a strong in-office culture and works in person 4–5 days per week in San Francisco. We love working together to stay creative and connected, with flexibility to work from home when focus matters most.
An active CPA license and a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, plus 8+ years of progressive tax and accounting experience spanning Big Four public accounting and in-house industry roles
Deep technical command of ASC 740 tax provision, multi-state corporate income tax, and US sales and use tax compliance
Strong working knowledge of global indirect tax (VAT, GST, digital services taxes) for SaaS or digital products sold internationally
A builder's mindset: you've created tax processes, controls, and documentation from scratch and managed external advisors to get leverage
The range to operate both strategically and hands-on with limited oversight, translating complex tax issues clearly for non-tax partners, paired with genuine excitement for AI tools and a track record of automating manual work
A Master's in Taxation, experience with tax technology platforms like Anrok, Avalara, or Vertex, transfer pricing or international structuring experience, or time at a high-growth SaaS or AI company (Nice to have)
The base salary for this full-time position, which spans multiple internal levels depending on qualifications, ranges between $190K - $240K plus benefits & equity.
Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including but not limited to experience and expertise in the requirements listed above.
If you're interested in this role but you don't meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway! We're always excited about meeting great people.
