From the original posting

Why Patch, why now

Patch exists to put the planet back in balance by scaling unified climate action through software, market infrastructure, and culture-driven execution. Every day our platform not only curates the world's most trusted environmental datasets that includes carbon, renewable energy, sustainable aviation fuel and more, we’re helping companies both set and meet ambitious climate goals that are tied to true impact.

Our culture is built on three non-negotiables:

  • We build the future we want – we don't wait for permission; we shape the market.

  • We're all in this together – direct, empathetic teamwork inside Patch and across the climate ecosystem.

  • We amp it up – urgency and unreasonably high standards because the planet can't wait.

If that mindset energizes you, read on.

About the role

Patch is hiring a software engineer to bring together the disparate data and workflows we have built over time into a reliable market-intelligence foundation. That foundation will help Patch direct capital and action toward the highest-impact climate solutions.

You will ingest and structure messy climate-market data, expose it through internal MCP tools and APIs, and build AI-powered research workflows that help our Climate Strategists, Sales team, and Marketing team understand markets, companies, commitments, suppliers, buyers, and buying signals. The goal is to turn fragmented information and repeated manual research into reliable systems that improve how Patch advises, targets, and acts.

This is a software engineering role. You will build and operate production data systems, internal products, and AI-powered workflows. Climate Strategy, Sales, and Marketing will be your primary users and partners; Engineering will own the architecture, implementation, reliability, and evolution of the system.

This is not a marketing-operations, RevOps, CRM-administration, business-analysis, or content-research role. You will work closely with those functions, but your job is to build the underlying software, data products, and intelligence systems they rely on. You will spend time with users, understand how work happens in practice, and turn recurring needs into durable systems rather than increasingly elaborate point-to-point automations.

What you’ll tackle

  • Build Patch’s market-intelligence foundation: Design and operate systems that ingest, structure, enrich, and serve information about companies, carbon markets, registries, policies, suppliers, buyers, and climate commitments.

  • Ingest and model messy external data: Work with APIs, websites, registries, PDFs, spreadsheets, public disclosures, market sources, and other heterogeneous inputs. Turn fragmented information into reliable, refreshable data products.

  • Make the data trustworthy: Build schemas, entity-resolution workflows, validation checks, provenance, freshness tracking, confidence signals, monitoring, and documentation that make intelligence reliable enough for advisory and commercial use.

  • Build AI-powered research workflows: Develop retrieval systems, MCP tools, agents, and internal applications that help teams discover, compare, enrich, and act on market intelligence.

  • Put intelligence into real workflows: Build APIs, internal tools, lightweight interfaces, reports, and workflow integrations that make the right information available to Climate Strategists, Sales, and Marketing.

  • Move systems from prototype to production: Build software that is observable, testable, maintainable, and useful in real workflows—not just impressive demos.

  • Own projects end to end: Move from an ambiguous user need to a scoped project, design, implementation, rollout, monitoring, and iteration. You will own medium-sized projects independently and contribute to larger architectural decisions with the team.

What makes you a great match

  • You have shipped and maintained production software or data systems. We care more about what you have owned and delivered than a precise number of years of experience.

  • You are a strong software engineer in at least one of Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript, with solid SQL, API, and cloud-infrastructure experience.

  • You have worked with data ingestion, ETL/ELT, web scraping, data modeling, entity resolution, or external API integrations.

  • You understand what makes data trustworthy, including testing, monitoring, versioning, documentation, validation, provenance, and data-quality practices.

  • You have built or operated AI- or LLM-powered systems, ideally involving retrieval, tool calling, agents, workflow orchestration, evaluation, or human-in-the-loop review.

  • You are comfortable moving between backend services, data pipelines, internal tools, and lightweight user interfaces when that is what the problem requires.

  • You can move from an ambiguous user need to a working prototype, then turn the right prototypes into production-grade systems.

  • You have good systems instincts. You think about upstream and downstream dependencies, reusable components, observability, maintainability, and when to build versus buy.

  • You want to work directly with Climate Strategists and commercial users, understand their workflows, and build systems they actually adopt.

  • You are comfortable in a small, high-ownership environment where you will help shape the roadmap rather than execute only a pre-written backlog.

  • Experience with Salesforce, HubSpot, Gong, Zapier, n8n, BigQuery, dbt, enrichment platforms, climate markets, carbon markets, sustainability data, energy, finance, or research is a plus.

  • You are motivated by the opportunity to be one of the first engineers shaping how Patch captures, structures, and compounds knowledge about climate markets… and to use that intelligence to help direct capital and action toward the highest-impact climate solutions.

What you'll get

  • A mission-obsessed crew building with speed and sky-high standards

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity

  • Onsite culture in San Francisco with annual global offsites for strategy and team bonding

  • Unlimited vacation and generous parental leave

  • Monthly wellness stipend (mental and physical)

If shaping the story of climate action — while using AI as a force multiplier — sounds like your kind of challenge, we'd love to meet you.

Let's rebalance the planet together.
