Quick facts
From the original posting
We are hiring Sr. and Staff Software Engineers (Autonomy) to build the onboard and platform software that carries our mining vehicles from raw sensor data to safe, reliable motion.
In this role you will own the software the rest of the autonomy stack runs on: sensor drivers and data pipelines on the vehicle computer, time synchronization and calibration, deployment and monitoring, the handoff of data from the vehicle to the cloud, simulation and test infrastructure, and the drive-by-wire interface and low-level control logic. You will carry work from design through implementation, simulation, and bench and field validation on real equipment at our mine sites, working hand in hand with our machine learning, hardware, controls, and mine operations teams. This is a hands-on, first-principles role for an engineer who wants to get people out of the pit and build the world’s first fully autonomous mines.
Build and maintain the onboard software stack for our autonomous mining vehicles, from sensor drivers through actuation commands, on industrial PCs that run in dust, vibration, and heat
Own time synchronization and calibration across LiDAR, cameras, radar, IMU, and GNSS so perception and localization get data they can trust
Build the pipelines that move sensor and telemetry data off the vehicle and into the cloud, including logging, recording, and labeling data for perception development and evaluation
Build deployment, monitoring, and fault-management tooling so we can update and operate a fleet of vehicles without logging into each one, and so the system detects and responds to software, sensor, compute, and network failures
Develop equipment simulations and test infrastructure, including replay of field logs, evaluation datasets, and vehicle models for acceleration, turning radius, and actuation latency
Integrate with drive-by-wire systems and write the low-level control logic and safety layer that connect the autonomy stack to the vehicle, including degraded operating modes and e-stop behavior
Work with our MineOS and mine operations teams so the autonomy system exposes the health, faults, and metrics operators need to run it safely
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Electrical, or related engineering discipline
5-8+ years building software for robots, vehicles, or other systems that act in the physical world
Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Python, and experience with Linux and a robotics middleware such as ROS/ROS 2
Hands-on experience with sensor drivers, data pipelines, time synchronization, or calibration for LiDAR, cameras, radar, IMU, or GNSS
Working knowledge of real-time and embedded systems, networking, and debugging across the software-hardware boundary
Experience with simulation, logging and replay, or test and deployment infrastructure for robotics systems
Experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, automotive, or off-highway equipment strongly preferred
