About the Role

MongoDB is seeking a seasoned Vice President, Corporate Controller to lead the Company's global controllership organization at a pivotal stage of growth. This is a rare opportunity to shape the accounting function of a high-growth, publicly traded technology company as it scales into its next phase.

Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the VP, Corporate Controller will serve as a strategic thought partner to executive leadership and key cross-functional stakeholders, leading the strategy and performance of MongoDB's global accounting and external reporting function. This leader will own global accounting operations, international compliance, SEC reporting and technical accounting, global payroll, accounting center of excellence, and will serve as the Company's senior authority on U.S. GAAP.

This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role with responsibility for building and developing a global, distributed organization while driving transformation across people, process, and systems. The role will modernize accounting infrastructure, automation, and controllership, translate complex accounting matters into clear business decisions for senior leadership and help shape a scalable roadmap for MongoDB's next stage of growth.

We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in San Francisco, CA or Palo Alto, CA for our hybrid working model.

Responsibilities

  • Set the strategic vision and operating model for global Controllership—building the maturity, scalability, and rigor needed to support MongoDB's next stage of growth
  • Lead and develop senior leaders across the function, with accountability for organizational design, location strategy, talent development, succession planning, and cross-functional execution across a large, distributed global team
  • Own the company's technical accounting positions and conclusions under U.S. GAAP, including complex and non-standard transactions, business combinations, stock-based compensation, and new accounting standard implementation
  • Own the integrity, timeliness, and quality of external financial reporting, including SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) and the earnings release process, and serve as the primary management point of contact for external auditors
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and consolidation process, driving continuous improvement in speed, accuracy, and efficiency; define and track controllership KPIs (close cycle time, error rates, automation coverage, control deficiencies) and report on them regularly to the CAO
  • Drive the strategic vision, design, and continuous improvement of the internal control environment (SOX 404), ensuring a control framework that scales with the business and adapts to new products, entities, and processes
  • Oversee global statutory and local GAAP compliance across MongoDB's international entities, partnering with regional finance teams and external advisors
  • Lead and drive major finance transformation initiatives including ERP optimization (Oracle NetSuite), chart-of-accounts governance, reporting-layer modernization, and adoption of AI-enabled close and reconciliation tools

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience, including current or recent experience as a Controller at a publicly traded, multinational, high-growth technology company
  • CPA and Big 4 public accounting background with a strong audit and technical accounting foundation preferred
  • Deep, current expertise in U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, with demonstrated experience owning complex technical accounting positions (e.g., business combinations, equity/stock compensation, leases, revenue-adjacent matters)
  • Proven track record of leading transformational change—including ERP/systems modernization, process redesign, and automation—within a controllership or accounting organization
  • Experience building, scaling, and leading large, distributed global teams, including establishing or optimizing shared-services and international location strategy
  • Demonstrated experience operating at scale within a high-growth environment, managing increasing complexity in products, entities, and geographies
  • Strong technical accumen—comfortable partnering with IT/Engineering on financial systems, data, and automation, and translating technical accounting complexity for non-accounting audiences
  • Excellent executive presence and communication skills, with experience presenting to and partnering with C-suite executives, the Board of Directors, and the Audit Committee
  • Strong relationship-building and cross-functional influence skills, with a track record of partnering effectively across Legal, Tax, FP&A, Revenue, Corporate Development, and business teams
  • Proven track record of leading transformational change — including ERP/systems modernization, AI-assisted reconciliation, and intelligent close tools — that measurably reduced manual effort and error rates
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA a plus
