Design, Build, and Testing non isolated and isolated power converters for high reliability space applications. May include motor controller work as well.
Simulation of the power stage in SPICE
Modeling the plant and designing the controller for a given topology and control technique (voltage, peak current, average current mode)
Schematic capture, jumping into component selection and auxiliary features of the converter
Layout, using Altium to place components on the board and connecting them in an optimized way.
Bench top testing the circuits at the board level using common lab equipment (power supplies/E-loads/oscilloscopes/Bode100)
Specialized power converter testing, EMI/EMC and control loop verification
Control loop tuning, either in analog or digitally
Requirements:
Graduating in the Fall of 2027 or in the Spring of 2028. MS graduates preferred
Pursuing a BS or MS in Power Electronics or Embedded Systems or Control
Proficiency in LT Spice, Altium, MathWorks, C2000 microcontrollers
Preferred coursework Introduction to Power Electronics, Introduction to Linear/Continuous Control, Introduction to Motor Drives
Preferred Extracurricular Activities: Student Project Teams, ie Formula SAE
