Quick facts
From the original posting
Specter's mission is to help automate the physical world.
We are looking for a Business Operations Generalist to join Specter's lean BizOps team. This person will work across deal support, pricing, market strategy, planning, finance, and company systems. Today the work leans more commercial, including working with our GTM teams on sales materials, customer value cases, and proposals. In a given week, it can mean a customer business case one day and a CRM cleanup the next. Some of it is strategic. Some of it is unglamorous. Part of the job is building the templates and systems that make that work repeatable, so the role will likely look different in 6 months, and may be less GTM oriented then. We want someone who enjoys that variety, jumps into new problems as they come up, owns the outcome, and leaves each process better than they found it. The right person is analytical, commercially sharp, highly organized, and comfortable working with leadership, sales, finance, product, and engineering in the same day.
You will put together pricing, proposals, customer business cases, and value models for complex deals, and support contract review. Over time, you will turn this work into templates and systems the sales team can run on their own.
You will build business cases for new markets and new products, and keep the team current on what competitors are doing.
You will help leadership and the sales team see the pipeline clearly through forecasting, CRM hygiene, and dashboards.
You will support planning, budgeting, and board and investor reporting, and track spend across the business, including production, R&D, SaaS, and vendor spend.
You will build processes, documentation, and decision frameworks where today there may only be spreadsheets, Slack threads, and ad hoc decisions.
You will handle the day-to-day work that keeps the business running: cleaning up data, coordinating vendors, chasing down numbers, and taking problems from "someone should figure this out" to a clear owner and outcome.
3 to 5 years of experience in consulting, investment banking, or investing, or in business operations, revenue operations, or a similarly analytical role at an early-stage, high-growth startup.
Strong with spreadsheets and financial models, and comfortable in a CRM.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Good judgment and the ability to prioritize when everything feels urgent.
A low-ego team player who takes on the detailed, behind-the-scenes work without being asked and improves it over time.
A builder mentality: you are excited to create the first version of a system and turn one-off work into something others can reuse.
A generalist who enjoys variety and is excited to take on whatever problem matters most, knowing the role will change as the company grows.
Comfortable working without much direction or full context. You find what you need, make a reasonable call, and flag what you assumed.
You use AI tools to improve systems and get more done, without handing your thinking to them.
Interest in physical AI, hard industries, critical infrastructure, defense, energy, or industrial technology and the ability and desire to get up to speed on technical products.
Based in San Francisco and excited to work in person.
