From the original posting
Mercury is one of the fastest growing companies in fintech, and one of the few that wants to be a premium consumer-facing brand. We’re seeking the right person to shape and deliver our brand team’s investment strategy and media approach—with huge financial and career upside as the company continues to grow.
In this role, you will report to our Head of Brand and be responsible for amplifying our launches and company narrative across paid channels, with oversight on agency relationships, key partners, and measurement. This is an opportunity to build a unique and differentiated approach for a brand that’s unafraid to think differently and challenge competitors.
Here are some things you’ll do on the job:
- Own Mercury's media investment strategy — build and execute the plan for a budget doubling year over year, deciding where, when, and how we invest across channels to deliver near-term results while building an approach that scales with the spend.
- Differentiate how Mercury shows up in market — develop a media and distribution approach that stands apart from the standard playbook and lets us outmaneuver competitors who outspend us, through unconventional channels, formats, partnerships, and creative use of the media we buy.
- Lead our agency and media partners — set the agenda, hold a high bar on their work, and source, evaluate, and onboard new partners as our needs evolve.
- Build the measurement system — establish a rigorous framework for attribution, incrementality, and optimization that can support spend at the magnitude we aspire to, and leverage learnings to drive our investment decisions.
- Connect media to the broader marketing ecosystem — integrate paid media with brand, performance, community, content, lifecycle, and product marketing so that media amplifies what the rest of the team creates rather than running in parallel to it.
You should:
- Have deep media expertise — 15+ years building and running a media investment strategy on a fast-growing budget, with a proven track record delivering and measuring short-term wins while putting systems in place that last.
- Be a market leader, not a best-practices follower — you find the unique, high-impact approach others haven't thought of, and you have examples of media work that was recognized as differentiated
- Think in systems — you see media as one part of a larger marketing engine and design programs that make everything else Mercury does travel further and more efficiently.
- Be rigorous about measurement — you're fluent in attribution, incrementality testing, and media mix modeling, and you can turn that analysis into confident decisions and a clear story for leadership.
- Have a track record of agency management — you've managed agencies and vendors and you know how to assess their work and hold them accountable
