Joblaze insights
Quick facts
From the original posting
We're looking for an HR & People Operations Lead to build and run the people function for our India team. Today our associates, team leads, QA specialists, and managers across the globe are supported by a mix of US leadership and a lot of goodwill. That has worked while we were small, but now we are ready to scale.
This is a ground-up role. You'll own recruiting coordination, offers, onboarding, documentation, compliance, and payroll administration, and you'll build the employee experience layer we don't have yet: structured onboarding, regular engagement touch points, clear leave and conduct policies, and a feedback channel that surfaces problems before they become attrition. You'll be the first person in India that employees go to with an HR question, and the person US leadership relies on to know how the team is actually doing. You'll work closely with our RCM Operations leaders and our People lead in the US.
Recruiting & offers
Partner with hiring managers to define roles and coordinate sourcing, screening, and interview scheduling
Run background checks, prepare and send offer letters, and handle candidate negotiations within approved bands
Track pipeline and hiring tickets and keep hiring documentation complete
Onboarding
Own the end-to-end new hire experience from offer acceptance through the first 90 days, and make sure no one starts without access, equipment, or a clear plan
Coordinate access provisioning and confirm HIPAA, data security, and acceptable use training is complete
Collect and maintain employee documentation and build records in our platform
Run structured 30/60/90 day check-ins with new hires and route what you hear to their manager
Employee engagement
Build and run a regular engagement cadence: pulse checks, skip-levels, stay conversations, and exit interviews, and report themes to leadership
Own the employee side of India holidays, leave, attendance, and coverage, including the policies behind them (public holiday pay, disaster and unforeseen absence, equipment outage)
Draft and roll out the people policies we're missing: leave, appraisal and salary bands, behavioral and conduct, and keep them applied consistently across teams
Support managers on documentation, performance conversations, and corrective action so feedback is written down and follows a clear escalation path
Payroll & compliance
Administer monthly payroll, resolve discrepancies and adjustments, and process offboardings and full and final settlements
Maintain working knowledge of Indian labour law (Shops and Establishments Act, EPF, ESI, income tax) and keep us ahead of statutory deadlines
Keep all employee and payroll data confidential, organized, and audit-ready
Experience
3 to 5 years in HR operations, people operations, or HR generalist roles supporting an India-based team, with hands-on payroll and onboarding experience
Working knowledge of Indian labour law and statutory compliance (EPF, ESI, tax withholding, Shops and Establishments Act)
Experience building HR processes or policies where none existed, not just administering mature ones
Skills and attributes
Comfortable being the person employees come to, and comfortable telling a manager something they don't want to hear
Strong attention to detail with numerical and compliance data; nothing slips
Clear written and verbal communication in English; able to handle sensitive conversations with discretion
Proficiency with HRIS and payroll platforms (Deel strongly preferred), Excel/Sheets, and documentation tools (Notion, Google Drive, Linear)
Able to overlap with US Eastern hours for part of the day
Nice-to-Haves
Experience supporting a remote or distributed team managed from the US
Background in healthcare, RCM, or BPO/KPO operations
Experience with Ashby, Checkr, or similar recruiting and screening tools
Experience running engagement surveys or building an onboarding program from scratch
