About the Role

We’re looking for a Director, HR Business Partner to be the strategic right-hand to our VP, People Experience & Operations - and the primary HR presence for our entire organization.

Right now, our VP of People Experience & Operations wears a lot of hats: she’s the one employees come to, the one running 1:1s, and the one holding together programs across performance, learning, culture, and operations. You’ll step in as a true thought partner and co-pilot - taking on the direct employee-facing work so she can operate at a higher altitude, while also helping shape the people strategy itself.

This is not a role for someone who wants to execute a set playbook. You’ll be stepping into an organization that’s scaling fast and needs a real strategic partner: someone who can hold complexity, earn trust quickly across all levels, and help us build a people function that’s world-class. The scope of this role has room to grow - including the potential to manage a team over time given this is the first of likely a larger org of HRBPs.

Your Impact

• Serve as the primary HR partner across ShopMy’s teams: be the go-to for employees and managers navigating anything from career development and feedback to sensitive or complex situations
• Be a true thought partner to the VP of People Experience & Operations: help shape people strategy, pressure-test ideas, and co-own the work of building a best-in-class people function at a fast-moving company
• Partner on manager effectiveness: build and run programs, coaching frameworks, and toolkits that make ShopMy’s managers meaningfully better at leading, developing, and retaining their teams - in close partnership with the VP of People Experience and Operations
• Anchor performance management: manage the day-to-day cadence behind our annual review cycle and calibration, in partnership with the VP of People Experience and Operations
• Partner with leaders on talent density and bar-raising: help them continuously assess whether their teams are meeting the bar - not just during the annual review cycle - and act early on gaps, whether through targeted coaching, role changes, or performance action
• Support employee relations: navigate sensitive conversations, workplace investigations, PIPs, and exits with care, sound judgment, and the documentation rigor those situations require
• Identify opportunities for learning & development: identify where the org needs to grow, design or source programs that close those gaps, and build a culture of continuous development
• Inform our approach to compensation and org design: partner with leadership and Finance on leveling, pay decisions, and headcount planning as we scale given the insights you have from working closely with different team leaders

What We’re Looking For

• 8 - 12 years of progressive HR experience, with meaningful time as a HRBP or strategic HR partner at a high-growth tech or startup company
• Proven track record as a trusted advisor to leaders - you’ve sat in the room, understood the business, and shaped people strategy as a result
• Track record of driving talent density as an ongoing practice, not as an annual event - you help leaders spot underperformance or skill gaps early and act on them proactively
• Strong employee relations background - you’ve managed complex investigations and sensitive situations with discretion, fairness, and rigor
• Exceptional written and verbal communication - equally clear, credible, and calibrated whether you're talking to an executive or an individual contributor.
• Strong follow-through and organizational rigor - you manage many concurrent priorities in parallel without losing the thread, and you're proactive rather than waiting to be asked."
• Hands-on experience with performance management cycles and talent density management - calibrations, feedback frameworks, and coaching managers through hard conversations
• Exceptional EQ and the kind of trust-building instincts that make both executives and individual contributors feel genuinely heard
• Data-driven and clear-headed - you can interpret people data, spot what matters, and present it in a way that drives decisions
• Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by building - you don’t wait for a perfect playbook
• Based in NYC

Bonus Points

• Experience at a creator economy, marketplace, or consumer tech company
• Prior people management experience (this role has a path to building a small team over time)
• Background in compensation strategy or total rewards (band design, pay equity analysis)
• SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certification
