MANAGER, INDIRECT TAX

We are seeking an experienced Manager, Indirect Tax to assist in all areas of US and Canada indirect tax including monthly compliance, controversy/audit matters, tax research, planning and strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather, manipulate and review data and coordinate with external service providers to prepare sales and use tax returns, across all U.S. states and Canada
  • Assist with indirect tax audits, refund claims and coordinate responses to various tax authorities
  • Resolve tax notices and similar matters
  • Perform tax technical research related to sales and use tax and other indirect tax matters
  • Create and establish processes for audit defense
  • Assist in validating tax engine configurations and calculation results
  • Work with suppliers and internal purchasing teams on sales & use tax matters, including claiming various exemptions or incentives, and looking for savings opportunities
  • Document indirect tax issues, positions and resolutions
  • Prepare and maintain tax calendar for indirect tax licenses, filings, as well as assist in various administrative matters
  • Assist with general ledger account reconciliation
  • Validates and manages sales tax exemption certificates
  • Implement process improvements and automation

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, tax, real estate, finance or other business disciplines
  • 7+ years of work experience as an indirect tax professional in public accounting or at a large multinational company
  • Experience with MS Excel and tax research tools (RIA Checkpoint)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with sales and use tax compliance and consulting
  • Experience working across multiple states
  • Experience working with indirect tax software (Vertex/AvaTax)
  • Familiarity with indirect taxes and their application across multiple industries

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position is based in Hawthorne, CA (Los Angeles area), and requires being onsite full-time – hybrid and remote work will not be considered
  • Willing to work extended hours as necessary

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:
$140,000.00 - $190,000.00

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
