Quick facts
From the original posting
Fireworks AI is looking for an experienced General Ledger Accountant to own and scale the company's month-end close and general ledger as the business grows rapidly.
This role will be responsible for the journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules behind our operating expense accounts and international subsidiaries (APAC and EMEA), including high-volume areas like infrastructure and compute spend, software subscriptions, and prepaid commitments, while helping build the processes, documentation, and controls needed to support a high-growth AI infrastructure business. This person will partner closely with Accounts Payable, Payroll, FP&A, Tax, Legal, and Procurement to ensure transactions are coded, recorded, and reconciled correctly.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning the close in an environment where systems and processes are still being built.
Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepaids, reclasses, and fixed asset depreciation within the close calendar.
Own operating expense accruals, gathering support from Accounts Payable, Procurement, and budget owners and truing up against actuals.
Maintain prepaid schedules and amortization, including software subscriptions, cloud and compute commitments, and usage-based prepaids.
Perform monthly flux and variance analysis on operating expense accounts and explain the drivers, such as headcount, compute, and software spend.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly, including cash, prepaids, accrued liabilities, deposits, fixed assets, and intercompany, and clear reconciling items with Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Treasury.
Tie out payroll and benefits postings to the general ledger.
Support month-end close and reporting for international subsidiaries, including intercompany transactions, eliminations, and FX remeasurement.
Assist with local statutory and tax filing requests for international entities.
Keep general ledger coding accurate across the ERP and spend management platforms, flag mis-mapped transactions, and help maintain the chart of accounts.
Participate in ERP enhancements and upgrade testing, including before-and-after trial balance and GL detail comparisons.
Document close procedures and help build SOX-ready controls, including preparation, review, and evidence standards.
Prepare PBC schedules and supporting workpapers for external auditors and tax advisors, and respond to questions on your accounts.
Identify manual steps in the close and help automate them using ERP functionality and AI-enabled processes.
Assist with tax, compliance, and other accounting projects as needed.
4–6 years of general ledger or corporate accounting experience, ideally including time at a high-growth technology or SaaS company; public accounting experience a plus.
Strong grasp of U.S. GAAP and accrual accounting, including prepaid and capitalization policy.
Hands-on experience owning month-end close tasks, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany, and foreign currency a plus.
Strong systems orientation, including experience with ERPs such as NetSuite; familiarity with spend management platforms such as Ramp a plus.
Advanced Excel skills and the ability to build clean, auditable schedules.
Experience supporting external audits and preparing clear supporting documentation.
Exposure to SOX readiness, internal controls documentation, or an ERP implementation or chart-of-accounts redesign a plus.
Strong communication skills and comfort asking questions early and partnering across teams.
Comfortable working in an environment with rapidly evolving systems and changing business requirements.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
In the first 6–12 months, this person will have:
owned a consistent, on-time close for operating expense accounts and international subsidiaries;
built reliable accrual and prepaid schedules that hold up at audit;
kept balance sheet reconciliations current, with reconciling items cleared each month;
improved GL coding accuracy across the ERP and spend management platforms;
documented close procedures and controls for their accounts; and
reduced manual effort in the close through automation and cleaner processes.
