About the Role
We are looking for a skilled Cloud Platform Engineer to join our Runway team. In this role, you will help design, build, and maintain the infrastructure and developer tooling that powers our engineering organization. You will play a key role in advancing our Kubernetes-based platform, maturing our GitOps practices, and driving infrastructure-as-code adoption across the business.
This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone who thrives at the intersection of infrastructure, automation, and developer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Kubernetes Platform Management — Operate, maintain, and improve production-grade Kubernetes clusters across cloud environments; manage cluster lifecycle including upgrades, scaling, and reliability.
- GitOps & Continuous Delivery — Own and extend our ArgoCD-based GitOps workflows; develop and maintain Application Sets, manage sync policies, and enforce deployment standards across environments.
- Infrastructure as Code — Write, review, and maintain Terraform modules to provision and manage cloud infrastructure; enforce IaC best practices including module reuse, state management, and drift detection.
- Platform Reliability — Monitor platform health, respond to incidents, conduct post-mortems, and drive improvements to availability, performance, and observability.
- Developer Enablement — Collaborate with application teams to onboard services onto the platform; create documentation, runbooks, and self-service tooling that improves developer productivity.
- Security & Compliance — Implement RBAC, network policies, secrets management (e.g., Vault, Sealed Secrets, External Secrets Operator), and ensure infrastructure meets security and compliance requirements.
- CI/CD Integration — Integrate platform capabilities with CI pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Tekton) to support end-to-end delivery workflows.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in a platform, infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE role
- Solid hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments (EKS, GKE, or AKS preferred)
- Demonstrable experience with ArgoCD or comparable GitOps tooling (Flux, etc.)
- Proficiency in Terraform for cloud infrastructure provisioning; familiarity with remote state, workspaces, and module design
- Experience working with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Comfortable writing scripts and automation in Go (preferred), Python, or Bash
- Familiarity with Helm for Kubernetes package management
- Understanding of networking fundamentals: DNS, load balancing, ingress, service mesh concepts
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document systems clearly and collaborate across teams
Nice to Have
- Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd, Cilium)
- Familiarity with policy-as-code tools such as OPA/Gatekeeper or Kyverno
- Exposure to observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Loki)
- Knowledge of Crossplane or other Kubernetes-native IaC approaches
- Contributions to open-source projects or internal platform tooling
- Experience with multi-cluster or multi-region Kubernetes architectures
- Relevant certifications: CKA, CKAD, AWS Solutions Architect, HashiCorp Terraform Associate
