Joblaze insights
Quick facts
From the original posting
We're hiring our first Design Engineer to own how Stuut looks, feels, and works — from first sketch to production code. Reporting to the Head of Product & Design, you'll work alongside our engineers and Product Manager across every surface finance teams touch.
Stuut's design problem is a systems problem. AI agents act on behalf of AR teams — sending outreach, triaging disputes, answering questions in Ask Stuut. Finance teams configure how those agents behave through Playbooks, Payment Plans, and approval rules. And collectors spend all day in dense, data-heavy worklists of invoices, customers, and cash. Your job is to make all of it legible: agents a controller can trust with their cash, thousands of invoices that scan in seconds, and configuration that is powerful without being intimidating.
Engineers at Stuut own features end to end and have historically pulled design in when they need it. This role closes that gap. You'll design and ship the work yourself, and raise the bar for everyone else's UI through shared patterns and components.
What Success Looks Like
Within 12 months, Stuut's core surfaces — agent activity, collections worklists, Ask Stuut, and configuration — share one coherent component system and interaction model. Engineers ship new UI from those patterns without waiting on design, and customers can see what Stuut's agents did, why, and what needs their approval.
What You'll Do
Own design and frontend end to end: Take product areas from customer problem to shipped code across the Stuut dashboard and the payer-facing experiences our customers' customers see.
Make AI agents legible: Design how agent actions, reasoning, approvals, and audit trails show up so finance teams trust automation with their cash.
Tame data-heavy workflows: Make invoices, disputes, payment plans, cash application, and customer hierarchies scannable and fast — without hiding the advanced controls power users need.
Build the design system: Own Stuut's component library, tokens, and interaction patterns so every engineer ships consistent UI by default.
Settle debates with prototypes: Put working prototypes in front of customers in days, not weeks, before we commit engineering time.
Stay close to customers: Join calls with collectors, AR managers, and controllers, and use product analytics to define success and guide tradeoffs.
Own post-launch quality: Craft, accessibility, performance, empty/loading/error states, instrumentation, and edge cases are yours after launch, not just before it.
Build with agents: Use coding agents daily to prototype and ship quickly, while owning the testing and debugging of what they produce.
Show shipped work: Your portfolio shows things you identified, designed, built, shipped, and learned from.
Write production frontend: You have strong production experience with React and TypeScript and are comfortable in a large existing codebase.
Design with craft: You bring strong visual and interaction design, and have made complex, data-dense B2B products clear.
Move across the stack: You're comfortable reasoning about APIs, data models, and implementation details, not just the UI layer.
Decide with evidence: You use customer research and product data to make decisions — and to revise them.
Work agent-native: You use coding agents every day and can explain and stand behind their output.
Thrive in ambiguity: You've done your best work at a fast-growing startup with high ownership and incomplete information.
There's no required background. We care about shipped work and judgment.
Nice to Have
You've designed AI agent or copilot experiences — human-in-the-loop approvals, explainability, or conversational analytics.
You've worked in fintech, B2B payments, ERP, or AR/AP workflows.
You've built a design system or component library that other engineers adopted.
You've designed data visualization or operational dashboards.
You've built enterprise configuration surfaces: permissions, org hierarchies, or rules engines.
