Who We Are

About the Role

We are hiring a Lead Product Manager for the Video Platform. You will own live streaming, historical playback, cloud backup and clip export, transcoding, third-party video ingest, and encryption of stored and exported video. Your work shows up every time someone opens a camera in Command, on a phone, through an API, or on a wall display.

You will work with backend, frontend, and mobile engineers, across every service our software touches. You will talk to customers to deliver revenue driving features and resolve video issues when playback, backup, or video quality breaks. You have shipped video products before, and know how to work with your customers and users to build a delightful playback experience.

We are committed to a thriving in-office culture. This role requires you to work onsite at our HQ in San Mateo, CA.

What You’ll Do

  • Own live view and historical playback. That includes the player, the timeline, scrubbing, time to first picture, stalls, and audio that stays with the video. Web, mobile, and API all count
  • Own cloud backup and clip export. Video is recorded on the camera and copied to the cloud. You decide retention, what the backup product includes, and how reliably a clip gets out when someone asks for it
  • Own reliable, quality streaming experiences, even under difficult environmental conditions. Many viewers on one camera, sites on LTE or a thin uplink, and cameras that keep recording when the cloud path is down
  • Own third-party video ingested via RTSP for playback in various formats and clients
  • Own transcoding. A lot of recorded video is HEVC. Some clients can only play H.264. You will work with engineering on when to transcode, what it costs, and how often it fails
  • Own customer-controlled encryption for stored and exported video, where the customer holds the keys
  • Set engineering quality standards for playback, framing, and cloud backups. Proactively identify and resolve customer issues using core performance metrics for Quality of Service
  • Work with sales, support, go-to-market, and design to deliver revenue-driving video products

What You Bring

  • 6+ years as a product manager, currently at Lead or Group-level scope. You have owned a video area, not a single feature
  • At least 3 years at a company whose product is video. Streaming, playback, recording, a VMS, real-time video, or video infrastructure all count
  • More than one shipped product that an outside user watched live, played back, recorded, or exported
  • Able to work with engineers on HLS, WebRTC, and RTSP, on H.264 and HEVC, on transcoding, on cloud recording, and on encryption
  • Clear in writing and in the room, with engineers and with customers
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar quantitative field
  • Must be willing and able to work onsite five days per week
  • Healthcare programs that can be tailored to meet the personal health and financial well-being needs - Premiums are 100% covered for the employee under at least one plan and 80% for family premiums under all plans
  • Nationwide medical, vision and dental coverage
  • Starting January 2027, Verkada will match a portion of an employee’s 401(k) contributions based on eligible earnings. Match vests on 2 year anniversary
  • Health Saving Account (HSA) with annual employer contributions and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) with tax saving options
  • Expanded mental health support
  • Paid parental leave policy & fertility benefits
  • Time off to relax and recharge through our paid holidays, firmwide extended holidays, flexible PTO and personal sick time
  • Professional development stipend
  • Wellness/fitness benefits
  • Healthy lunches provided daily
  • Commuter benefits
