An overview of this role

At GitLab, People technology never stands still, and this role will be at the center of it. Reporting to the Senior Director, People Technology, you’ll work alongside senior team members and partner closely with People Operations, People Business Partners and Talent Acquisition to keep our People systems running at the speed of a fast-moving, innovative tech company. No two days will look the same. One day you’re running recurring processes and answering questions from teams across the organization, the next you’re preparing Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) audit evidence, building reports, writing test cases or delivering quarterly and annual changes and system upgrades. Using cycle-time analysis, best-practice research and AI tools, you’ll find better ways to operate and create streamlined, delightful experiences for the people using our systems, while growing your career in an all-remote, async-first environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Keep pace with the daily rhythm of a high-growth company by owning recurring processes, monitoring system health, resolving issues quickly and serving as a go-to resource for teams across the organization, especially People Operations, People Business Partners and Talent Acquisition.
  • Protect data integrity by administering system security, assigning and maintaining security roles, and running regular system and security audits.
  • Configure, test and deploy day-to-day enhancements as well as quarterly and annual changes, including annual People programs, so every update lands cleanly and on schedule. Support upgrades and releases by reviewing new features, running regression tests and helping stakeholders get ready for what’s changing.
  • Write and run test cases, and keep clear documentation of configurations, business processes, and reporting and integration schedules. Load mass datasets and distribute policies and documents with confidence and thorough testing.
  • Prepare and maintain SOX information technology general controls (ITGC) audit evidence and internal controls documentation, following access, security and change-management standards with care.
  • Build and maintain reports and dashboards that help stakeholders make decisions. Use cycle times and process data to find friction, then recommend and make configuration changes and measure their impact.
  • Help team members get the most out of their tools through training and enablement. Research best practices and new capabilities, and use AI every day to automate manual tasks, speed up analysis and share what you learn.
  • Support senior team members on cross-team projects and implementations, owning your workstreams and delivering quality results on time.

What You’ll Bring

  • Hands-on HR technology experience, including exposure to Workday configuration, testing or system support.
  • Exposure to public company operating procedures, such as SOX ITGC controls, audit evidence and change management.
  • A curious, puzzle-loving approach to problem-solving, backed by experience investigating issues, analyzing process data and finding the “why” behind a problem.
  • An AI-forward mindset, with experience using AI tools in your daily work to automate tasks, speed up analysis and improve processes.
  • Experience validating system changes and documenting findings clearly, along with close attention to detail and sound discretion with highly confidential information.
  • Independence and an ownership mindset: you take accountability for outcomes, move work forward with confidence and follow through on commitments.
  • A collaborative, customer-focused approach. You partner openly, design with the end user’s experience in mind, and bring polished options and a recommendation when you raise a problem.
  • A love for turning complex processes into simple, delightful experiences that let people focus on their best work.
  • Helpful but not required: experience with Serval, Greenhouse, Slack or Google Workspace; building reports and dashboards; supporting implementations, upgrades or releases, including regression testing; or working in a fast-paced, all-remote or async-first tech environment.
