From the original posting

MongoDB is looking for a Staff Product Manager to define and execute the strategy for our Developer Tools portfolio. This role will help developers and data practitioners learn about, explore, model, query, and work with data through intuitive, powerful experiences.

The initial scope includes MongoDB Compass and Data Explorer, with the opportunity to shape connected experiences across the broader developer tools ecosystem, including MongoDB Shell, IDE integrations, data modeling, and AI powered developer experiences.

You will operate as a company-wide product leader: setting direction, simplifying complex technical problems, and aligning engineering, design, research, developer advocacy, marketing, sales, support, and adjacent product teams around measurable customer outcomes.

We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in Dublin for our hybrid working model.

What you’ll do

  • Define the vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for developer tools, balancing the needs of individual developers, data experts, application teams, and enterprise customers
  • Own product strategy for experiences that span desktop, browser, Atlas, and self-managed deployments, creating a coherent journey rather than a collection of disconnected tools
  • Identify high-impact opportunities in data exploration, querying, performance troubleshooting, schema and data modeling, governance, and observability
  • Help shape the next generation of AI-assisted and agentic workflows, including natural-language interactions, intelligent guidance, and transparent actions that keep developers in control
  • Lead customer discovery with developers, architects, data professionals, and enterprise teams; turn qualitative and quantitative insights into clear product decisions
  • Partner deeply with engineering and design to frame problems, define requirements, make tradeoffs, and deliver high-quality products from discovery through launch and iteration
  • Build alignment across teams that contribute to the developer experience, including database, Atlas, AI, client libraries, documentation, developer relations, and go-to-market organizations
  • Establish outcome-oriented goals and operating metrics, using product analytics, customer feedback, research, and market signals to evaluate progress and adjust priorities
  • Drive adoption and effective use of new capabilities through thoughtful onboarding, education, packaging, positioning, and field enablement
  • Communicate product direction and decisions clearly to senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders, including the rationale behind what we will and will not do
  • Raise the bar for product management by mentoring other PMs, improving product practices, and modeling strong judgment, customer empathy, and execution

What you bring

  • 6+ years of product management experience, including experience leading complex technical products, platforms, or developer-facing experiences
  • A track record of defining strategy and delivering products used by technical audiences, ideally across developer tools, databases, cloud platforms, data infrastructure, IDEs, or analytics
  • Strong technical fluency in software development workflows and database concepts such as querying, schema design, data modeling, performance, and observability
  • Experience translating ambiguous customer and business problems into focused strategies, product narratives, roadmaps, and prioritized execution plans
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence across multiple engineering and product teams without relying on formal authority
  • Excellent customer instincts and the ability to move comfortably between user research, product details, business strategy, and executive communication
  • Experience launching products that require behavior change, ecosystem coordination, or adoption across both self-serve and enterprise customers
  • Comfort working with AI-enabled product experiences and evaluating where automation, guidance, and human control create the most value
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complex technical concepts clear and compelling
  • A bias toward action, disciplined prioritization, and the judgment to make decisions with incomplete information

Nice to have

  • Technical experience as a software engineer, developer advocate, data engineer, solutions architect, or similar role
  • Experience building desktop applications, browser-based data experiences, IDE extensions, command-line tools, or developer platforms
  • Familiarity with MongoDB, Atlas, Compass, Data Explorer, MongoDB Shell, VS Code or IntelliJ integrations, MCP, or comparable products
  • Experience working across cloud and self-managed environments
  • Experience leading product strategy for AI-assisted developer workflows or agentic systems

How success will be measured

  • Developers can discover, understand, and work with MongoDB data more quickly and confidently
  • The Developer Tools portfolio has a clear, differentiated strategy and a roadmap aligned across product, engineering, design, and go-to-market teams
  • Adoption, engagement, retention, task success, and customer satisfaction improve for priority workflows
  • Enterprise customers successfully adopt new capabilities while the products remain approachable for developers getting started
  • AI-assisted experiences deliver meaningful value while remaining transparent, trustworthy, and easy to control
  • Cross-product experiences feel coherent, with clear paths between Compass, Data Explorer, and complementary developer tools

With offices worldwide and over 67,000 customers, including AI-native startups and approximately 75% of the Fortune 100, relying on MongoDB for their most important applications, we’re powering the next era of software.

MongoDB is an equal opportunities employer.
